Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. (they do exist)

Why do some fighters who are left handed fight out of the orthodox stance?
I have heard rumors that Roy Jones Jr and Oscar De La Hoya are both southpaws and that Winky Wright is actually right handed but lines-up like a southpaw.
    Is this very common?

Idk if it's common, but I am the same way. I just feel more comfortable jabbing with my writing hand.

Because it puts thier stronger hand in front as the lead (Cotto) and feels more comfortable to them (Oscar)
