I notice that Sergio and Martinez will both (against an orthodox opponent) throw a straight left and step over at the same time with their left foot then reset their stance. I haven't seen an orthodox fighter doing this against a southpaw and these are the only two southpaws who I've seen do this move frequently. What other fighters throw this punch a lot?
I'm not talking about just leading with the punch, but also stepping over with the same foot while you're throwing the punch.
is this what you mean? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZJ3df37Z-w[/ame] at 1:35 and at 2:00 Roy does his straight right hand and drags his foot forward, and has to quickly get back into an orthodox stance.
Pirog does that all the fuking time. He KO'd Jacobs while stalking forward switching stances. It seems as though it's by design and used as part of his strategy.
Yup, same punch, but when Pacquiao and Martinez do it they don't step as wide, they do it with their left foot getting right to their side and when they reset they are in range.
Not a good way to throw the str8. Roy, Martinez, and emmanuel can get away with it against most opponents due to their athleticism and speed advantages. I still remember Steward bitching during the Pavlik fight each time Martinez threw his str8 left.
Quite a few fighters do it. Dmtry Pirog is the most obvious example cos he does it a lot and did a huge step with the punch on the punch before the KO.
I'm pretty sure they're closing the distance with that step and throwing their weight into the punch at the same time off a pivot as to surprise their opponent, hence it's done as a lead straight and isn't normally done behind a jab or in combination.
