I'm 62 years young i have always kept myself in decent shape. I have been using boxing as a fitness program for the last 5 years. I have a boxing gym near by and workout out there twice a week and twice a week at home (i set up a boxing gym in my home). I do pad work with the owner twice a week at the gym. I would really like to do some sparring but because of my age the owner is very hesitant about it. Im not looking to compete but i want to see if my hard work has payed off.
Just looking for some opinions or even constructed criticism.
    Thanks
    David

tell your Trainer to spar with you! i´m had about 80 fights (boxing, toughman, kickboxing) and i work as a Trainer in my spare time.
and i spar with everyone!! ranging from Teenagers, to women, to novices.....to actual fighters preparing for their next contest.
a good Trainer should be able to spar with everyone and not hurt them. simple as that. just tell that to your Trainer!

I still spar kids and im in my 40s

Than again had several years of amateur experience and was familiar with being hit.

Ive always felt. That in general 40 somethings can box each other provided they are 175 lbs and below.... But than u ask why traditionally have people bern so against over 35"s over 40"s guys boxing?..... Well apparently its because the brain loses its fluid and thus protection as u get older. So risk of brain damge is apparently increased. Also u bleed cut more often apparently...... But agaunid

i wouldn't recommend hard sparring. it can be very dangerous at your age...

i sparred with a first timer just two days ago. i used sixteen ounce gloves and didnt even Close my fists when punching. just tappin him a bit. landed a few soft punches to the Body to give him a realistic feel.

my Sparring Partner really enjoyed it and i got a light workout. win win Situation.

p.s. i totally get you wanting to mix it up a Little. boxing (Sparring) is great fun. at every Level. this really is a great Sport.

Have your trainer put on one boxing glove, a body protector and one hand pad. You put on all the sparring gear i.e. head gear, mouth piece, foul cup. For three minutes your trainer tries to land some kind of punch on you with the boxing glove hand, while you attack or counter the hand pad and body protector. When that round is up have the trainer change boxing glove / hand pad hands. Semi sparring isn't exactly sparring but it ought to give you an idea of where your skill level is.

Like I said I have a little boxing gym in my attic of my house (100lb everlast leather heavy bag, 120lb Agua training bag) setting up this week a double end bag and a speed bag. I have a heavy bag question. I was wondering if i should take it down to redistributed the stuffing so it doesn't settle at the bottom. So how often should i do it and should i hang it upside down from the ring on the bottom
