I dont care im trying to get tips from my SPARRING VIDEO not were this tread or vid belong. As long as I can get some positive tips it doesn't bother me if it's moved or not.:bart
Not only with a pacifistic attitude like you have will you quit on your stool....you will quit with your trunks full of stool.
You're a bit like James Toney, but should be less so. Your main faults are that you go too low with you head and that your guard isn't tight enough. You should also work the body more. But all in all, I think it looks good. Your moves a pretty smooth (even though they need tightening up) and you have a good "radar" for incoming punches. You put together some decent combinations, but I liked you right hand counters the most. Those are your strongest point. Good work!
Do your road work - slim down a bit - get fitter and sharper - . More body punching too - work the body.
Get in the gym and get yourself a coach. You got some good talent there son. Would be a shame to see it go to waste. Style wise you remind me of John Ruiz. Other than being a bit overweight you got some good natural instincts there. You Mexican?
I enjoyed your video. I'm a bit of a backyard boxer too. Spend some time in front of a heavy-bag with no supervision and work on getting some pop on those straight punches. Focus on getting them back as fast as you get them out and the pop will come. I say no supervision because a good bit of the pop is in learning to relax. You need to control when your muscles tense, they can't just always be tense. If you find your speed improving but your power declining, just retract the shot after it dents into the bag a little farther. Do it right and you can make the heavy bag sound like a fire******* going off. You develop that a little and I'd wager you were at least as good as me. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? As for other observations: 1. Get your left shoulder in front of your chin when your doing the leaning and weaving. 2. As a beginner with the jab you can develop good defensive habits with your shoulder by turning your fist all the way over during the punch until your thumb is pointing at the ground at the end of it, this will help turn your shoulder up to guard your chin. It's really great when your opponent is throwing wide right hooks at your head, you get to bust them with the jab and defend your jaw with the same arm at the same time. Once you get into good habits with your shoulder you don't need to turn your hand all the way over anymore..sometimes I still do though.
If you achieved a fraction of what John Ruiz did in your career you wouldn't be posting here. Last i looked Ruiz was a multiple world champ and to my knowledge the first Latino heavyweight champ. Wether he was pleasant to watch is immaterial. Fact's are he was a solid pro. And the kid reminds me of John's style.
Mate I haven't read all the responses so my apology if this has already been said. Boxing is a serious business. Looking good comes with being good & that comes from taking it serious. "I'll never quit on my stool" is negative macho bull****, Wishing you didn't have to go back to the stool is the opposite. Do not spar casually, it's the birthplace of bad habits. Learning to box starts at the feet. Balance is power. Deception in footwork opens targets & ultimate power comes from the feet. I promise you that if you are not ready to give it 100% now, if & when you do, you will have developed a mindset from casualness that will make you an easy target. I think you have a very good foundation. Don't **** it up! JMO Good luck.
Scurlas right. He does have a stamp of John Ruiz on him. Ruiz made a few million in his career won the WBA World title a few times - and fought Tua and Valuev and Roy Jones and Holyfield and David Haye. To call John Ruiz "terrible" is ignorance of the highest order - he was one of the best heavyweights top ten in world boxing during his career. Not many people can say they were good enough to become world class in their chosen profession.:deal
Just realised theres two vids/threads. Those turns as mentioned......very natural. What i liked the most was..........the composure.
