What are some good drills you guys do while sparring instead of just beating the crap out of eachother. Ex. Offense vs Defense or a round with just body shots
Just jabs for a round or two (this is a good warmup). Just left hand shots....Just right hand shots. I used to do a four punch drill when you'd throw any four punch combo and then defend a four punch combo - that's a good one...
I already use the jab one and I may use the other ones also. I like the 4 punch combo one, because I've been trying to work on my combination punching
offense-defense. 1 partner can throw anything, 1 partner can only defend. counter the jab drill. one partner intiates with jabs, other partner counters. the initiator is not a dummy in this drill, his goal is to learn to jab without being countered. in-fighting only - do this at much reduced power or someone will get hurt. pretty much any pattern you can think of can be done.
-One person attacks with any punches, the other is only allowed to parry, block and move (variation - only jabs) -You both go down on your knees and work in-fighting (sounds wierd but is very good drill) -You tie a band yourself and your sparring partner and you work on infighting. Good for guys who don't feel comfortable in close and naturally move out using footwork to force them to learn how to fight in close -specific combination drills (pre-agreed combinations, other person defends)
Wall drills [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3frzQlyMIGw[/ame] Bob drills - pretty original [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goqiGEQqVAk[/ame] Wolk pack drills [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TRTO3W1mxs[/ame]
getting pounded against a wall looks like a fun drill :bbb and gettting hit with kidney shots while hitting the heavy bag is every better. if my gym did that i wouldnt come back
That is some of the worst training techniques I have seen. That **** is going to nothing but breed bad habits.
I got it, those videos are suppose to show----"What not to look for in a gym!" No style, technique, finesse, what so ever.
The wall drill IS a good drill, just not done like that. Your supposed to start slow and gradually add a little speed, definitely not hitting with power though. Keep the pressure to what the person can handle comfortably. It improves your defense and reaction time, but your not supposed to be a heavy bag for the person that is striking.
