They probably get paid about £50 offically then with the rest cash in the hand. Similar how they get their flights and hotel paid for.

 

If you're Hayemaker promotions though and you're paying someone £1000 a week to spar DH you're going to want to write that off your own tax bill so by paying their sparring partners in cash that would effectively cost them double as they can't write it off in their accounts when going through the profit and loss.

 

It's really dependant on the earnings of the boxer requiring the sparring

 

David Haye will do all his business through Hayemaker Promotions.

Draw £8k in salary, pay all the bills and then pay corporation tax on the profits, draw the rest as a dividend.

If you only draw a small dividend you aren't liable for any additional tax.

There's no way on God's green earth that you'd let someone waltz off with 40% (+ NICs) of your gross earnings, and then have to pay the bills out of what's left.

Haye's wife will be on the payroll, he'll have a pension scheme coming out of the company, allsorts.

And rightly so. Nothing wrong with tax avoidance, it's perfectly legal.

 

£1,000 pw sounds great, but how many weeks will they be in camp for?

If its 4 weeks, and Wladamir fights twice a year, that’s £8k… I would imagine that out of the £1,000, Towers would have to pay for his own travel, accommodation, food etc. It all adds up.

That’s why a lot of these boxers are part time. If you are bringing in an average wage outside the sport, coupled with what you make fighting and sparring. You could probably earn a comfortable little living.

 

Surely you don't have to pay for your own travel accommodation and food, if you have to travel to a foreign country and you're doing it for the money you wouldn't have much if anything left

I wouldn't argue against an individual with relatively moderate wealth doing it especially a boxer that will only have a short career, but Amazon and Starbucks paying less than 5% tax in the UK, the former putting other tax paying retailers out of business by selling products cheaper online, while the rest of us pay 30-40% is a joke and clearly not right if you ask me.

It's legal, but then again it was legal in this country to **** your wife until it 1991!

Larry Holmes was paid $1000 dollars a day to spar with mike Tyson when he was a 16 year old kid around 1982 ffs

 

I got paid £30 quid a day to spar recently ...
