Lol fair enough, I didn't read previous posts ha. It never fails though, I go to other gyms seeing their fighters going to war
I've seen some stupid **** in the past. A gym I used to go to the head coach had a couple of 12 year old lads sparring in the ring, one covered in blood from a bloody nose. The one was training for a competition, the other, a new kid, just wanted to get out of there. He made them finish their "match" to "toughen them up". I left that shithole soon after.
Seems common now a days, trainers stuck in the old school mine set up "manning up" rather than being smart and critiquing their fighters
Yep tech spar for improving and hard sparring for checking ur fitness/skill progression - building confidence close to a match
BOOM! this is the amswer. hard sparring has its place but it should make up 20% of your sparring. technical work should make up the other 80% eg one jabs one counters the jab for a round then vice versa then one throws a 1-2 and the other defends or counters. vice versa etc simple. i am convinced i could train a raw fighter better than 95% of the trainers out there. most are ****ing clueless.
In most of the gyms I have trained at I don't see the trainers doing any drills or teaching defence. lots of hitting the bags, a bit of padwork, shadowboxing etc but no endless repeating of the basics which are required to get something down. hence why so many amateurs make so many mistakes and get hit so much. i would drilll and drill all the basic defences and counters until they were second nature. and that would produce a much better foighter than the majority out there.
Thats totally correct. We have some belters round here. You'd be suprised how many trainers don't hve any concept of the basics- the very fundamentals of the sport. Anyone I train understands the fundamentals- I make sure of that. Any idiot can prescribe exercise- it takes a proper trainer to convey the hows and whys, and at the right time. My trainer is a master of that. Thats why I travel 100 miles a day to train with him.
Good stuff, BB. I used to work on my footwork for nearly 30-40 minutes, and other basics, but haven't had the time to get to a fitness gym where I do that stuff. Any exercises you can suggest, list them here...it would help me a lot.
So true. I'm fortunate that I started my training with a professional coach, who makes sure the fundamentals are in place. Even now, if I'm doing a bit bag work and my feet aren't correct, he'll pull my up on it. I'm also quite fortunate in the fact that my amateur gym has a good set of coaches aswell.
What are your circumstances mate? You cannot self teach boxing i'm afraid mate - i've never ever seen one decent self taught boxer.
