Ever have a day when you are really on top of it in sparring and then never repeat it? It's really frustrating. The other day I was doing really well, probably the best I've ever done, then as the week went on I just kept going completely backwards. :-(
Yeah I have that a lot. I try to analyze what it was that I did well. I discovered lately that my slipping and ducking isn't what it used to be because I try to fight in the distance more. It seems I overdo everything I try. I'm getting more balanced now though.
it happens there will be days that your flat as hell and way off with everything timing breathing even, just keep at it sooner or later you will know how to get yourself into gear when the bell rings.
Yup. What Amy didn't mention was that she's done about 50 rounds total sparring in the past week or so. After a while you just wear out and get flat. She's just been slowing down the past 2-3 times she sparred, it's just fatigue. On that note man, what do you think is a good amount to be sparring per week leading up to a tournament?
I would say atleast four or five, remember though this is the amatures meaning they have three different classes Novice, Open and experienced, so if someone is new they can enter when they want as long as his coach puts him in the novice level, I think its best to make sure that a fighter has been in the gym about a year before he or she attempts the golden gloves.
The only two divisions in the amateurs are novice (up to 10 fights) and Open (10+ fights). Golden Gloves and Nationals doesn't have a novice division. Just Ringside I think. You have to qualify for both GG and Nationals by winning on the state and regional level. To compete at state and regionals you must have 5 fights. So theoretically, you would have a minimum of 7 fights by the time you got there. Unless you win uncontested or by walkover.
Amy, Im going to agree with the need for rest. I read your post a lot and you have the knowledge (i can't see your fights) but you know whats going on. In my experience (limited to a little over a year) i was working my ass off and going through peaks and valleys all the time. so i started something new for training and its been almost 3 weeks to a month. now im ready to go back and feel much stronger than before the break...
