it amazes me time and time again how boxing fans seem to put so much emphasis on how boxers perform in sparring.

my way of thinking is that good boxers can look bad in sparring for a number of reasons......ali used to deliberately get pasted in sparring to get accustomed to being hit as he would say himself......another scenario, a boxer is in an 8 week training camp before a big fight, and his first sparring is 6 weeks before the fight, with 6 weeks left to go and not in top shape or ready to fight for 6 weeks, could he be expected to perform at his best in sparring ??....also, boxers can use sparring to work on defense etc.

just my thoughts....be good to hear others thoughts here.

I always liked to spar to work on technique, combinations, defence, etc. I really don't see why some guys try to kill each other in sparring.
