ok so i joined a boxing gym about a week ago and today was the first day of boxing training . the other days was just conditioning or whatever. so the training was good and all , i didnt even get to hit the bags or anything but i did get to spar. i was kinda nervous considering that ive never takin boxing before. i got smacked around a couple good times and i tried to hit some but the point is , sparring so soon ? not even a week into it and im already fighting someone that has way more experience than me. i mean my trainer hasnt even showed me any moves or anything

He was seeing if you have what it takes, and if you are willing to get hit to learn how to box :bbb

That's not bad. You probably won't be in the ring for a while after this. Like Matt said, just trying to see where you were at athletically and to see once you took some shots,if you'd be back next time. Now your coach knows where to start and what route he wants to take to teach you the basics...

Seems pointless to me to put someone in the ring without even showing them a basic 1-2 punch and how to at least block a punch.

If you get seriously beaten around then hes a **** trainer. But i think maybe its good that hes taken a look at you and seeing what you can do so early on. I didnt spar my first session but we did get in the ring and practice jabbing and blocking each other at full steam so if you didnt block you got hit but only by a jab. Suppose trainers work differently. As long as it wasnt against some really good guy whos been there ages and he was just giving him tips and using u as a punch bag.Thats when you know its time to go. Youve got to show heart but use your head too dont be a sucker and a punching bag for someone elses training

you are always going to get thrown in with somebody with alot more experience than you, until you are experienced and end up getting thrown in with begginers. Thats how you get them to learn. Nobody learns anything by having two new dudes in there wondmilling the crap out of eachother.

Now if the trainer is throwing you in there with a guy thats trying to knock your block off, thats a different story. Then it would be time to start looking for a new gym.

My coach told me about another trainer that puts every single person that goes to his gym into the ring on the first day they are there. I think it's basically just to see if he has the heart to stay in it and to show him what it will be like.

Getting in the ring is the fun part that everyone wants to do from day one. I think it shows way more heart to show up everyday and work your ass off just practicing a jab and being bored out of your skull and still coming back eager to learn and work hard.

    Hi Amy :happy

Some have no idea what it feels like to be punched in the face. They may decide they don't like it very much. What if you practice jabs for half a year only to find out you can't take a punch. My mission is to get everybody familiar with being punched in the face. I think it's the noble thing to do.

I suppose. I guess I had just been punched in the face plenty before I started boxing so it wasn't a problem.

I had another dream about you, no beer this time though. :blood

    A nightmare indeed.

No, I never get that lucky. :( It's always something about work or someone trying to kill me.
