Why would I do that? Were you responsible for the lack of beer?

Maybe your trainer holds a grudge against your family? If you want to die, that is one way to go about it.

Get a new trainer or new gym. No good trainer would throw his student in the ring without proper knowledge of at least the basics. Throwing a kid in the ring with no experiance to "see if he has what it takes' is the most idiotic reasoning I've ever heard. That's like throwing me in the field with a bunch of pro football players and told to show what I got.
My coach made me do only footwork for a month before even showing me how to punch, throwing a kid with no experiance in the ring to sparr after a week with no formal training will only scare and discourage him.
I give at least a month worth of training before I let any of my students spar.

Depends. We have a kid at our gym that is dying to spar. That's all he talks about every time he shows up. Which, coincidentally, is only once a week. He doesn't pay attention when he's there, he's always screwing around-never listening. Doesn't give an effort at any of the conditioning drills. (a young zellenoff, basically) He's been there coming up on a year now. I'd say around 9 months or so. And he's no where near ready to spar. He can't even throw a jab properly.

Well I've been going to the gym on and off back in 2005. I'd show up for 3 months then disappear for 5 months then get back. It wasnt until 2007 when I really fell in love with boxing. Ever since January, I took it seriously. In 2007, if you total all the times I missed going to the gym, it would only amount to probably 2 months. That's how much I fell in love with boxing this year. Basketball used to be the one I love but I realized ball wasnt for me. Hell if I took boxing seriously since 2005, who knows what might have been. But Im glad I looked at boxing in a whole new light. Got a match coming up in 2 weeks.

Sparring that early is dangerous. Most people fresh into a club, with no instruction, are going to try to throw overhand punches. When that happens, a more experienced fighter is going to throw a right, right down the pipe. Hard. You shouldnt really spar until you understand defense, and how to throw a punch properly. If my coach said that on the first day, I'd flat out refuse.

Exactly. Putting someone who just started boxing to spar hard with an experienced boxer is just dumb. If the experienced boxer was going light and not going all out, then that's ok. At the same time, the trainer could give pointers.
