Today I sparred for more than usual, the last 2 rounds I could barely throw a punch, and the last one I was content to sit in the corner, pick shots off and counter instead of using my speed against a bigger dude..

Any tips on how to fight through this? The main thing is I get the feeling people in my gym think I kinda gave up, but I was really too tired to get my combinations off.. No one said that to me, I just get the feeling, you know.

so what if they think you gave up? if you kow you did not then that is all that matters. just go back and show you arent a quitter if that matters to you.

but yes. you can get your cardio up through sparring if you already do alot of running/ sprinting.

usually you get a 2nd wind...but you shouldnt count on it. if your tired your tired back off, clinch, move. when he gets close just fall into him.

picking shots off and sitting in the corner is good thing to do against bigger men. you can use your (im guessing) elusivness and speed while on the ropes. using a tight solid defence and using shoulder rolls to be a bit harder to hit.

conditioning is the main thing. but you will tire...it is inevitable. and what you did seemed to be right. tho if you start to tire, acknowledge it and adjust. you should of gone to the ropes earlier so that you had enough gas to counter back with and able to flurry.

it sounds a bit ***** like but if your tired your tired...deal with it.

Yeah I feel you man, but I would like to stick and move rather than sit in the corner, haha.

Unless your facing a swarmer, boxing him and picking your spots, as it sounds like you did, is a very economical thing to do when you are tired. Use bursts of energy, clinch and box.

If you need to build more stamina / endurance via training then do it. Take the critique you imagine your gymmates / trainers have of you and ask yourself honestly if it is valid. If you think it is its time to work harder in the gym, if its not then don't even give it another thought.

For lack of anything better; you just have to Cowboy up and deal with it. Box smart, conserve energy, flurry when you have the opening, and then move and defend again.
