i disagree, sparring is exercise, and the more exercise the better your conditioning will be, i usually at the least run a mile on the treadmill before i spar, but recently i've been doing full workouts with my coach before i spar, i'm telling you, you'll feel like a beast after its all over, and no i'm not overtraining, i havnt been all sore all over afterwards, just a little sleepy :tired
i figure i can put this here i sparred with a pro who was a 2 time wba world champ in his prime he's now getting on a bit and is about 190, he has still be training etc anyway first thing i noticed is how damn hard he hits even though he wasn't loading up his shots (i was loading up a few rights but nothing major) anyway about middle of the 3rd round he hit me with a right hand and hook and there was a sharp headache like sensation in my head. i didn't feel dizzy or anything. he landed quite alot of shots on me, alot of right straight hands. my nose was busted but otherwise i was fine, we did 6 rounds. after we finished i felt kinda unsteady on my feet (i know this is not uncommon after being hit with hard shots for 6 rounds) - did take a beating but not a real bad one. anyway, even today I feel SLIGHTLY dizzy. Its not an unbalanced, head spinning dizzyness.. its more a light spaced out sensation. Anyone expericned this before? I have never felt like this after sparring but also I have never been in there with someone who hits so hard and lands so often..
Not true. Performing aerobics, flapping around infront of your TV is exercise. You saying that will help with your boxing? Nearly as bad as that guy that said walking help with his conditioning. Apart from that the aim of sparring is to allow you to learn and use new techniques you've learned on a real opponent, not to increase fitness levels. So you try to tire yourself out before you spar? Why? A mile run isn't a warm-up for boxing. You don't even know what overtraining is from that statement... Very, very, very few people overtrain, those that do are usually top quality athletes being pushed to their limits.
I usually agree with a lot of what virus says, but i get a good work out during sparring. Much more intense than anything I can do in a gym by myself.
Working out before sparring is not good, there is such thing as overworking yourself and could actually lead to negative affects rather than positive
