http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrnSxLLzNhk Excuse the lecture room setting, we normally spar at the gym in the ring. Usually for defence i would keep my hands and elbows tight and cover up before firing back. In this session i tried to incorporate some head movement, but Ive no idea if it's working the way it's meant to, and even if it is, i may be just getting away with it because i have a size advantage. (i usually spar dudes much bigger than me, simply cause theres no one my size) 00:47 and 1:49 shows me attempting to bait him with a forward angle, slipping back and countering (though the counters dont really land). Any advice on this kind of technique?? Any general advice on proper form will also be appreciated. It needs work. Im in the red gloves
There's not much to judge as the other kid was just there to be hit. In general, everything needs work, but maybe spar someone who can hit back. I kinda feel bad for him.. you weren't holding back on a novice
You lean back too much. You also need to work on the extension of your punches. You can make good use of your height. It felt like when you punched you were never anywhere NEAR full extension. Also work on your punch technique, you could use a little more snap on them. Footwork as well. It's obvious your still new, but you need to find a coach who you can ask for more detailed instructions.
it's really hard cause when i go up against other dudes in the gym, the tables are basically turned. i cant really get intensity sparring without being battered somewhat as for my friend, we did spar three rounds this session (this one being the 3rd); the first two rounds we bascially threw flurries & traded hits (not too much to study from there) and he did hit me with some good shots. he used to school me couple of months back in fact so i gues i wasnt holding back
ty for feedback. it would be hard to describe in words, how exactly do you throw with full extension??
Hard to assess head movement. Most of your movement was out of range/edge of range when he wasn't attacking. Mostly looking like you were trying to bait him with your hands low while shifting your head back and forth. You need a better opponent, most of his shots were not crisp and straight to work on proper slipping.
