First thread, I'd like you guys to take a look at some of my sparring videos and give me some feedback. That last one got a little bit out of hand. I understand that sometimes a ring can't be set up for whatever reason, but I'm not sure about using the brick wall as one side of the ring. Somebody could miss a punch and break a knuckle, or get their head bounced off of it. Keep your right hand home when you jab, to parry or to throw your right hand. You should be throwing it from there, not from the hip. A lot of times, your hands being in the wrong place keeps you from throwing combinations or makes it take so long that the monent is lost. Don't reach with the right hand. Throwing a right hand from too far away leaves you insanely vulnerable.
assuming your the shorter guy i watched the first video, like grey mentioned about your hands you circle them down and most of the time not even back to the chin at all, should be straight line out and back, use your legs more for the body punching, bend your knees. Dont smother your work inside take a half step back to make room for some shots on the inside, step back with rear foot only and bend knees, you can also turn the back heel either way to load a big left or right to hit him with, if youve done it right he'll fall into your punch, give him some resistance to push against on the left shoulder, throw a right and weave under to give him resistance with your right shoulder then pivot out to your left, get some basic principles going you want to give him resistance to fight against then let go and aid him in the directions his muscles will send him. if you do this whenever your feet and or hands are tied up it will keep him off balance at vulnerable times and stop him throwing any meaningful shots, but the idea is to have your hand, footwork, and little tricks like this all working efficently by themselves, then youve got a good few layers of defence to work with, and things will have to go very wrong for you not to have an answer to things. use this to move him around and make angles on the inside rather than doing big rolls and ducks that leave you with nowhere to go fast and nothing to come back with, little steps and angles and youll be there to return stuff. if your not sure bend your knees, elbows in tight and wait to raise your gloves if they come high instead, always remember a low stance isnt always the best for power and inside fighters (watch Tyson had quite narrow stance inside at times) it can weaken shots and screw mobility, plus if you have to weave or duck more than one hook youll quickly run out of room to get under and in the am game windmilling is quite common so watch it. Theres lots to work on as there is with any fighter but you looked well in there, how long have you been boxing? you need to learn ways to neutralize his jab and get yours working for you, jab his lead glove to stop double jabs and get him more predictable, working a single jab, then straight right just on the ribs under his armpit when hes single jabbing, weave to his left away from power side and land 2 more, you could throw a left while you weave under, and a right over the shoulder after the weave to flank them on their left. feintyour jab and hook off of it with the left its a lost art but it will stop him parrying your jab so effortlessly jab the shoulders and the chest to open him up and keep him off balance so you can move in without wasting too much energy. Hope some of this helps, basic principles you can build on, show a low one to the left, works better after establishing the shot and hook the right glove instead to clear the way for a straight right, just because your smaller doesnt mean you dont have to box, youve got to box if you want to adapt and keep winning.
