Guy where I train that just seems to snap once or twice a round and tries to take people's head off. Quite weird actually, as it doesn't seem to require a significant punch to trigger, he sometimes just does it.
I had this a few times. I never instigate but if you go heavy so will I. 6 months or so ago I was sparring with a guy who weighted about 90 kilos I guess and was built with it. I weighed 80 ish at the time but was defo carrying more bodyfat than him. coach told me to go easy on him as he is quite new, hasnt sparred much. turns out he was quite a good athlete and a southpaw. 30 secs in he caught me with a hard straight left. i gestured for less force. 15 secs later catches me again and then has a bit oif a whale at me on the ropes. i get away but the glocves are off now. i can see one of the coaches grinning over his shoulder as he knows what is ahppening. no more being evasive and going backwards from me. im walking towards him looking to slip and counter with something big. . Im not quite sure how I did it but about 10-20 secs after deciding I was going to nail him I hit him with a right uppercut , left hook combo. not sure which one did the damage as he had a delayed reaction. everyone watching seemed to think it was the hook but I think it was the uppercut. anyway......he did the legs buckled, he caught himself and then ran sideways at 45 degrees into the ropes before having to cling onthe ropes for dear life tp stay upright. i acted concerned but really wanted to do cartwheels in the ring. this was with 16oz gloves on and he had headgear with protective bar across the nose area. spoke with him after abd he was fine. was good for my ego and everyone in the gym loved it!
Knock him the **** out, obviously. Sometimes you have to put things into perspective for a newb. They think they're going to get in there and prove something, when all they're meant to be doing is gaining experience. There is not, and I say this categorically, one single newb who doesn't think he poss4esses some sort of special potential. Sparring is where they can prove to themselves and their coaches that they're a 'natural.' This is human nature. You need to hit that mother****er in the body HARD and pin him onto the ropes so he can't take a knee. Tee off on him with quick shots. You don't want to kill him, you only want to show him that you could if you wanted to. Bottom line in sparring: If you feel his shots, he needs to feel your shots. If he can't feel your shots, lose weight and/or spar someone smaller.
Depends on the skill level. It is GREAT when a guy is equally or lesser skilled than you. You NEED to face that pressure and keep your cool. Trust in SKILLZ and apply your art. If he is getting you out of the box with that wild angry ish? This is a good thing. Spar with him often. If he is getting wild AND catching you? It is pointing out a flaw in YOU. If he is more skilled than you? It can be dangerous. Usually though, you can't bring a more skilled guy out of his "training: bag. Just pass and move on.
