I remember a few years back when both he and Danny Swift Garcia were rising up the ranks of light welterweight, a lot of people were wondering which of them would make it to the top (or which would get there first).

Vicious Victor Ortiz was in that same conversation with them, as he was still campaigning down there and hadn't quite blown up yet himself although he was a bit ahead of both. Circa the win over Arnaoutis.

They were the 140lb Latin-American "projects" who looked like they might be special.

Of course Puerto Ricans eager to lay their claim backed Garcia as the next big thing, and Mexicans backed Vargas (and Ortiz)...despite them all being lifelong residents of the continental USA. :yep

Kind of crazy, the respective paths they've taken.

    Garcia is at the top.

Ortiz has blown several chances, and is still treading water, constantly lingering near the top.

Vargas is undefeated but very much on the outside looking in, with a long climb up.

Actually, it's funny, Vargas lost most of his shine for having struggled once - against Lopez. Garcia was under the hot lamp for looking flat thrice in a row (Campbell, Holt and Morales) but suddenly all was forgiven when he kayoed Khan. Ortiz quit against Maidana and has been a hot-and-cold basketcase since but keeps getting the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not sure why Jessie gets so little leeway in comparison. He's been all but written off since scraping past Lopez, who's proven himself before and since.

You think? Aaron is a tough nut.

Seeing an accumulation of flurries, or a 1-hitter doing it?

Accumulation. I don't think Vargas will worry about getting tagged and stopped so he will come out and fight aggressively like he did against Tyner leading to a ref/corner stoppage mid-late rounds.

This is, of course, my opinion after seeing Vargas' last 8 or 10 fights to only seeing Martinez once against Brewer.

Jessie is too much of an arm puncher. And when he does, he stands straight up with it. He needs more movement.

I agree with your opinions. But are we going back to the " He quit " bull**** again? Not everyone wants to fight until blood is streaming down their face and they are all busted up half dead still coming forward until they are flattened from a combo of exhaustion and being on-the-brink of death. Ortiz did fight hard in that fight and took a beating. Yet Chad Dawson was just getting out classed and said no and quit. :-(

Try it yourself man. :yep No hate intended but I hate how someone has their jaw busted, is gushing blood or is on the flood badly dazed cut up and is always supposed to go on,.

That said. Vargas has lost a lot of his hype he had. He almost lost to Josesito, He should have lost to Lopez. I think he's really average :conf . He's a contender, maybe bogus titleholder at best.

Garcia, also not an A + guy. He has openings and limitations guys like Matthysse can expose. As proven in Morales and early in Khan fight. As much as i hate to say it, I think Khan could win a rematch pretty easy.
