Has anyone suggestions for specific exercises to enhance arms's speed? Actually, i'm doing this exercise with my Coach : In front of the heavy bag, balancing/moving the weight from a leg to the other, i hit the bag with the fastest punch i'm capable of, each time he gives me the signal. My Coach told me it's a "neurological" kind of training. What you people think about this exercise? Does someone wants to describe some other exercise to make punches faster?
That sounds incredibly pointless to me. To punch quickly you need to be relaxed and time the tensing of your arm as close to the point of impact as possible. Everything should be generated from your legs and core, your arms should have very little to do with punching. There's not much you can do for speed, so work on technique to maximise what you have. It's all timing and technique, you need to get the feel. Doing what your coach has you doing would be detrimental unless you're quite experienced and have your technique down, if you're new to boxing he's just going to be conditioning you to arm punch and once you learn something it can be hard to unlearn.
Yeah don't get the one leg to another sounds a bit fitness first to me, however reaction speed can be improved and that's what it sounds like he's trying to work on-
Lefty, thanks so much for the explanation:thumbsup!!!..what you described was exactly the problem i had : everytime i was throwing a punch, the "charge" i put in my arms was blocking them and slowing down the movement.. A couple of hours ago, i tryed to perform the exercise, with the modality you illustrate to me.. it's completely a different kind of work compared to what i was doing, and i can touch the difference..because i see the movement getting much faster and harmonious and neat..and it's not tiring my arms as it was before..of course there's a lot of work i have to do in this exercise everyday, but i feel much more comfortable performoning it like this way you explained to me..so, thanks so much.. I started going to the Boxing Gym past December..it's 7 months now..but i feel like i started one month ago..because it's just one month ago that i started to go there 5 times a week, and now the Coach is trying to correct everything i learned wrong in those past months, and that's damned difficult..as you wrote..
Yes Brown Bomber, this was exactly what my coach was trying to do..unfortunately, till today, i was charging power over the arms, in order to make them faster..and this was slowing down punches, and tiring me up faster.. Today i tried to perform it like Lefty told me to do..and i can see there is a big difference:bbb..
:thumbsup No problem mate, glad I could help. As BB said your coach was probably working on your reaction times, IMO it's a good idea to get good technique ingrained before doing anything like that and the best way to work on reaction times is doing partner work and sparring.
Today my Coach allowed us to have a little 3 rounds match..3 minutes the first two rounds..and 2 minutes for the last one..i tried hard to apply the new fast punches throwing method..i think i was successfull 20% of the times..maybe because as we know, the "concentration" is overloaded by a ton of actions to handle, and it's not that easy to focus on a single aspect..that is also a part of the training obviously.. However, i am pretty satisfied i started to work on this method in the reality.. And i totally agree with you, about Sparring and Partner Work are the best way to train reaction time.. I always ask my Coach to have at least 4 Ring-Sessions or more in a week, because i love it first..and then also because i feel like as the only way to learn in harmony, is living the Sparring daily, or almost at least..i would like to reach the same "mental-familiarity" i have to drive the car, while i get inside the Ring to do Sparring..i think only Daily-Routine could help me in this, and i hope this could also help to fight the "inhibitions" i have during the Sparring-Sessions.. I am a novice..i feel like i need a full-immersion routine..
