Timing is the best thing to build your fighting game around. Speed goes as your physical shape declines and power is useless if you can't land.

I agree, timing beats speed or raw power.

However, from there it gets more complicated. Good timing enhances a fighter's perceived power.

I feel that real power can be truly game-changing provided the other skills are there, however the majority of so-called KO artists are not actually that powerful.
Power gets hyped up by casuals, hence it's often overated.

One of the interesting aspects of Kovalev-Ward is that we get to see whether Kovalev has that game-changing power + the skills necessary to administer it to a p4p opponent.

Speed makes timing easier, in anything really. Basically they complement each other.

Speed is a great thing to have but it can also lead to your demise if you are too much in love with it.

Fighters showcasing their flashy hand speed stay in way too long enough to get caught.

Bey-Molina is a fine example of that.

Weve seen a lot of speedsters get put down on the canvas for showing off.

Golovkin and Kovalev both have power and timing, also distance, balance, experience, chin, stamina and some speed whenever needed, very underrated defense when used................

Certainly when you're not from one of the major boxing countries or have a powerful promoter behind you. Then you won't win big fights on points anyway and you need to get your opponent outta there, or at least down a couple of times.

Timing is more important as speed or power anyway.

Timing is hand eye coordination. the greatest athletes in any sport have this in spades, from formula1 drivers, to golfers, baseball sluggers, boxers ect.... So timing is a requisite to be a great athlete period.

Therefore, in boxing I will take speed. I have seen too many slow heavy hitters swinging at nothing but air.
