(To be clear incase I have the wrong name: When I say speedball, I mean the little springy one that hangs down and is attached from the top only - not the one suspended between two cords from the top and bottom) In the gym I go to (not a boxing gym, unfortunately) they don't have a speedball - but do have what I can only describe as an exercise bike for your hands. My question is, would using this give the same benefits as a speedball (arm endurance, shoulder endurance, hand speed/coordination)? For the past couple of days I've set it to the lowest resistance, and done bursts of 3 minutes with a one minute 'rest' - which is going in 'reverse' at half speed. Anyone think this would work out, or is it a poor substitute? Thanks in advance
I've used both for decades. Surprisingly, the hand bike is close to the speed bag movements. The fist you make when striking vs. holding a handle is perhaps the biggest difference. Nothing beats making that speed bag sound like a Maxim.
