Just before the face off at the end of the presser, Spence takes a mic and questions the 3% going to all governing bodies involved and questions how that helps the fighters. In a corrupt sport, in my opinion that turns the tables. Regardless of PBC being the bigger more established promoter for those involved in the fight, the governing bodies will now not want Spence as undisputed as he will probably continue to speak out. Spence now needs a knockout
When you have to give 12% of your purse to the sanctioning bodies for a four-belt unification ... it explains why most boxers don't choose to unify all the belts to begin with ... and, if they do, why most choose to drop most of the belts afterward.
Delahoya gave Mosley plus millions for the 154 lb belt, Mayweather also gave up his belt to fight Shane I believe. It's happened more than you'd think
It's marketing. It's quite simple — you're far more attractive as an opponent when you have a belt. Sanctioning fees are silly, but you also make far more as a title holder.
If they didn't all receive their 3% you know we'd never see titles unified at all. In the end it comes down to money, if being undisputed means fighters get to earn more for an undisputed title fight and more for defences for the undisputed title then you have to pay for that opportunity to earn more otherwise these sanctioning bodies will block every attempt to unify the belts.
Yep. And the dummy knows that he can drop the belts and stop paying the sanctioning fees, but nah, he knows what the belts bring.
