Spence fought a pretty smart and disciplined fight against Crawford. He applied steady pressure the whole fight until he really started getting dismantled at the end and he never stopped going to the body. The body shots were quality work too—they just weren’t having the intended effect. He would likely break down and stop most welterweights with the exact same strategy. Bud was just brilliant that night and fought a perfect fight. Even Spence’s most glaring error that night: freezing up after throwing his jab, was more of a byproduct of how good Bud’s counterpunching was with both hands. Spence clearly didn’t expect the counters to be landing that quickly with that much force. TLDR: Spence lost badly, but didn’t fight a bad fight.
Yes constantly lunging in off balance and unable to change strategy like sitting back and forcing Bud to engage, despite constantly getting lit up by counter punches was a masterclass in boxing obviously. Awesome break down.
Yeah he tried to fight how he usually does, but the style match up always favoured Bud. Trying to walk down a hard hitting counter puncher is always going to end badly, especially if you don't have the footwork to close the gap or get off the line.
Lol. Spence didn’t stand a chance being drained to **** and having only one fight in 2.5 years lmao..PBC knew Spence was done they were just cashing him out. you guys are dumb AF Fight would have been way more competitive years ago…freaking Khan, Kavaliauskas put on a better performance than Spence, which in itself demonstrates Spence was either 1. compromised (100%) or 2. Never that good anyway (bit of both)
No he didnt. Every round gis trainer begged him for lateral movement and to not stand in front of Bud. But he didnt or couldnt do it and got beaten up badly. He made Crawford look like SRR in there.
He really didn't start lunging until he got down to the point only a ko could win it for him honestly. He fought his fight the best he could, Bud was just great that night.
Oh jeez get off of that tired ass narrative man. Every fighter is a different version of themselves on every single fight night. Strengths, weaknesses, conditioning, energy level, even down to technique Everything can be different from one fight to the next. Sure some great fighters have consistency to keep close to a standard level but not everyone and not every fight. You can't sit here and say because Spence lost he was never that good to begin with. You can't say he was compromised at his natural weight he held 3 of the 4 belts at. That's nonsense. How about Spence was an elite welter that ran into someone on their best night? This is boxing and that happens. All these ridiculous excuses just to not give a guy credit for a great win, what's wrong with you lol?
Nah, he kinda did. Once he knew he was really far behind he started getting sloppy to make things happen but his energy was already sapped so it made him look even worse. Than looping overhand he was trying was very sad.
Do you think a more complete Spence would have made a difference? Personally, I feel a 100% Spence fighting the same way, would have been beaten too. Car accident decreasing Spense's punch resistance and being drained had very little to do with his lack of defense or a plan B. It's difficult to look good against an opponent landing 60% of his power shots.
Spence was never going to outbox crawford his biggest bet was to overpower bud and break him down with pressure, it was his whole mantra going in. When he realized bud was stronger than he was, he had nothing to fall back on. That's why Crawford looked so dominant, Crawford would've destroyed him car wreck or not.
