First have to say a remarkable fight from Spence while he definitely has room to improve, after the layoff and injury the job he did on a formidable opponent in Ugas has to be commended. Now watching the fight something that was mentioned that caught my attention was the historical achievements being made in that fight, that most would think unexpectedly is connected with Floyd. After beating Ugas, Spence became the 2nd fighter in WW history with Floyd to unify 3 titles in the division and take the belt off of 3 reigning champions in the process. My question would be where would you rate this as far as boxing history for both men as far as achievements at welter. Spence - Brook(IBF), Porter(WBC), Ugas(WBA) Mayweather - Ortiz(WBC), Maidana(WBA), Pacquiao(WBO) although it should be noted that Mosley was also WBA champion but Floyd chose not to fight for it in their bout.
Brook, Porter and Ugas are all good names but not as good as Ortiz, Maidan and Pacquiao. If Spence wants to actually get near or surpass Floyd’s resume at 147 then he needs Crawford and defend the Undisputed belt against Vergil or boots.
i think fighters need to focus on they own legacy and not trying to surpass Floyd, for the most pet I feel like for almost of these new fighters doing that will be hard simply because guys not fighting like they used to donuts here to get a win over a truly great fighter because guys ain’t trying to be great
Ortiz - Floyd won via cheapshot Maidana - Floyd arguably lost the first Pacquiao - past prime and rumoured injury Not saying Spence's run is better...but let's stop putting Floyd on a pedestal
i don’t think you can really hate on the Maidana and Pacquiao wins, Pac was still p4p top 3 and went on to have impressive wins including over an unbeaten keith Thurman, and Maidana outside of the Alexander fight hadn’t had a clear loss up to that point in his career.
