According to a certain fat reporter, the fight did over 350k buys and grossed 27 mil domestically. Good numbers imo, considering the gate was huge in terms of attendance and now above average numbers. Spence is stepping closer and closer to being the next American superstar.

Are you impressed? If not why not?

A better question would be, did the people who bought it feel they got their money’s worth? I personally wouldn’t have been, too one-sided and would probably put me off Khan - Crawford as that could go a similar way.

    Thoughts?

I said before the fight I expected between 300-400K so solid numbers, more than Fury/Wilder made and looking at how Wilder and Fury's profile has grown immensely since their fight one can hope we'll see something similar in regards to Spence's profile, though the Fury/Wilder fight was far more dramatic a fight and had more people talking about it afterwards.

    I said 300K-400K MAX.

It was obvious. They promoted the hell out of this fight to us the boxing fans, I fear not many casuals got to see it.

Spence is being manufactured into a pay per veiw superstar, after the void left by mayweather, it’s pretty obvious. At the same time American boxing needs someone, so who else could it be??? It has to be Spence. I think that’s the reason I can’t get on board the Spence train, he’s talented no doubt, but I think it’s more based on the fact he’s the least brash/offensive/overly loud/controversial American champion. Anyone see this the same way?

It could have been Crawford but I think the fact he fights with top rank has hurt his chances of being a star, due to the fact Top rank has no name at 147 in their stable where as Spence has 4 big names in the division.

I don't want to sound like a pessimist but I don't think the U.S. audience wants a yes sir type of fighter like Spence. Americans like entertainment and want controversy. I think Crawford has a better chance at getting a larger audience but even then he doesn't have the opponents since they are with PBC and we all know Haymon isn't going to sacrifice his welterweights for Crawford.

    Not impressed.

These are two of our sports top p4p fighters, in an undefeated clash, with an American and a mexican American, in a fight that was reasonably promoted by FOX.

How am I supposed to be 'impressed' by these numbers?

These are average numbers at best, imo.

It could be but then Spence ticks more boxes Iam a Crawford fan and think he beats Spence maybe even makes him look bad, no way Crawford gets hit with those trade mark body shots. But Spence is more marketable than Crawford, they are on a similar level terms of resume can see an argument for either(Crawford edges it for me). Crawford just seems to have the darker personality, and ye there’s the issues you mention which I kind of agree with but let’s pretend there were not ties for any current American champion would there be any other fighter that could be as marketable/brand-able? I think maybe Jacobs or crawford, then neither personality would be suitable both for pretty much opposite reasons.
Put another way if the executives of all the broadcasters/promotion companies drew up a blue print for the ideal next generation American ppv superstar would that blue print/template come up with any one else?

Neither Mikey or Spence have much charisma. I think that's the main problem with the promotion. Pretty much the only people who bought this fight were the 150-250K hardcore fans that usually buy every fight plus another 100K casuals who watch Fox or follow boxing accounts on social media who were bombarded with the promotion.

With all their promotion they were able to get about another 150K buys from what they probably would have gotten either way.
