Basically this. Algieri showed some decent ring savvy in the fight with Provodnikov.

How do we know? Maybe p4p he might be? But at 147 what indications do you have to say that?

Beating Bradley would give him a good claim to it

What indications do we have that Porter, Brook, and Thurman are top welterweights? Who have they beat besides each other?

Youth, size, knockouts, speed and athleticism to start.

    So stats and eye tests?

I think Pac has the upper hand here.

IDK about Gatekeeper, but he's no A level contender either.

    No title defenses????

He fought Pacqioua next and vacated his title.

    Amir Khan after that!

He's only lost to the elites.

Maybe Gatekeeper would be a better term if he hadnt beaten a solid world level titlist and several gatekeepers himself.

Even if he loses to Spence, he's still a B level contender, NO LESS.

A win over Spence and he's earned the right to be considered a genuine A level contender. :think

I think Spence has already earned his level of contender, but yes, beating Algeri would cement him in that level unless he bottles it against a far lesser opponent later.:think

    If Spence loses to Algeri.....

He can rebuild depending how badly.

If he's KOd for instance....all the hope that his chin is solid would be lost since he's been able to relatively abstain from slugging it out but rather been able to use movement and handspeed advantages to steer clear of big shots.

Algeri will definitely hit him since the handspeed advantage and length advantages will be minimal for either fighter.

But Spence has a huge power advantage against 90% of the WWs and should easily deter Algeri from looking to trade.:thumbsup

Algieri is a very popular fighter for us New York fans.I have travelled to Long Island for most of his fights there and now that he's fighting in the City (giving Brooklyn props here-lol) it's even better.Spence is a tough ask for Chris but he is very capable of winning this.
    :thumbsup

This will be a tough fight for Spence. Algieri isn't anything special but he's solid. Given his size and style to Spence's, and I think we have a competitive fight on hand.

I'm still amazed at how Thurman is automatically considered a "top welter". Algieri's resume ****s all over KT's, as at least he has had the stones to step up. Thurman might well be found equally wanting at world title level.

I suspect he's little more than the new Mike Jones.

Chris Algieri is an A-level fighter. Losing a decision to Manny Pacquiao doesn't make you a gatekeeper.
