Brave move fighting Spence BUT not smart He should have just targeted Loma, but he felt politics would get in way of fight, which is prob true Mikey started at 126, Spence is MASSIVE & one day will win a belt at 160... The size difference is too much While Mikey is extremely talented, I think 135 is his best weight. Even at 140 guys like Josh Taylor & Prograis would be much bigger+stronger & tough fights for him While Mikey is damned good he's not ATG good like Pac+Floyd who beat up much bigger guys no problem It will prob look like Brookz-GGG & Khan-Canelo, he will be competitive & even win early rounds. But make no mistake Spence will eventually stop him, maybe with a body shot... Mikey even loomed flabby at 140, & while he doesn't get hit clean often, too he the little that AB or even Easter hit him, I didn't like how he responded
Expect the unexpected. Thats all I have to say. Mikey is ducking Crawford but wants Spence who every except Crawford is ducking. That says something.
Crawford, Spence, and Mikey Garcia are far and away America's top 3 p4p fighters and are so close in that regard that I wouldn't have a problem with anyone's view in what order they should be placed in. Spence does have a noticeable size advantage over Mikey and athletic advantage, but I actually think Mikey is the more skilled of the two. When two fighters are so closely matched technically and skillwise I think you have to favor the significantly larger fighter, especially when said fighter is also the more athletically gifted of the two, and if the match isnt as competitive as it should be anticipated I think Spence is the only one of the two that could win their fight like that. But personally I think Mikey is way too good, schooled, trained, and skilled for it to be anything but a razor close fight either way and I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Mikey actually pulled off the upset. Also keep in mind this is a fight Mikey pretty much demanded. He wasn't even on Spence's radar as a potential opponent, why would he be, he's naturally a weight class or two below him. Mikey and Robert and the rest of their team aren't stupid, quite the opposite in fact, and they are as smart and knowledgeable about boxing as any team and family. So if they are flat out essentially demanding a fight with an elite upper tier p4p fighter that is substantially bigger than Mikey, then they must see MULTIPLE things in him that they know or at least believe to the fullest they can exploit, and know that Mikey can win.
Mikey might be able to beat Peterson, Kell Brook would rip Mikey to pieces, but... there was a tiny part of my brain that thought he could pull it off, until then I saw the size difference. That being said, I'm rooting for Mikey here.
One more observation -- the size disparity between Mikey and Spence is probably the exact same as the size disparity between Mikey and Loma. Mikey and his team I'm sure truly believe Mikey can beat any fighter from 135-147(rightfully or wrongfully) and it's clear they wanna fight only the best which really only leaves 3 fighters in their crosshairs: Loma, Crawford, and Spence. No other fighter in those 3 weight classes has close to the name, reputation, recognition, or ability as those 3 and no other fighters at those weights will bring in close to the money those three would in a fight nor would any other win outside those three impact Mikeys resume anywhere near as much as those three. So Mikey against Loma, Crawford, or Spence would easily be the hugest fight in boxing at the moment(maybe barring AJ vs. Wilder) and all three would probably bring in almost the same purse. That tells me that they think Mikey matches up best against Spence and I have a feeling that they wanna fight and beat Spence first and fight Loma right after that. That way if Mikey beats beats both, anyone who would try and detract from a victory over Loma due to the noticeable to significant size advantage he would have over him would be nullified because he would have previously beaten a similarly p4p talent that held the exact same size advantage over him.
FWIW -- I would favor Loma, Spence, and Crawford over Mikey but out of the three I think he does match up best against Spence. Personally I just think the overall speed, ring smarts, and style uniqueness of Loma and Bud would pose the most problematic matchup for Mikey in boxing today but make no mistake, Mikey and his team are much too elite to not be able to beat all 3.
Mikey must have watched Spence in the photos and videos only that he took such a reckless decision to fight him. This is worse than Loma-Rigo. How high in the world Garcia's fist supposed to reach Spence's chin or eyes ? The size difference between them is just ridiculous.
