J'Leon Scrub got handled by Rosado and popped hot. Then got KTFO by Porky and is in a SM div. that has a lot of fighters that are much better than him. He's on the bench. Mickey Bey got KTFO by Molina and then got a gift decision against Vazquez in an absolute stinker of a fight. He is now probably going to lose to Shafikov in Macao in a few weeks. He is not the guy who is going to carry the torch. (update: Has now ducked Shafikov) Badou Jack killed his momentum when he got KTFO in the first round by Edwards. But, he has bounced back by beating Dirrell and if he can beat Groves in August, then he'll be the most proven of Floyd's fighters and there's still light at the end of the tunnel. Adrian Broner is basically sc_rap metal at this point. Got handled by Maidana and Porter and he isn't a welterweight. He doesn't have the boxing acumen or work ethic of Mayweather and he's just an idiot altogether. He will never take that mantle. That leaves us with Spence--who has looked the part up until now. And I think Floyd likens him to himself because he sees the hard work and the talent and he also knows what it's like to get a black eye from Spence. With both Floyd and Manny looking to retire sooner rather than later, welter is up for the taking. I think Floyd is going to do everything possible to pass the torch to Spence as long as he keeps doing and saying the right things. Another thing that must be taken into consideration with him anointing Spence is the fact that they are in the same div. and Floyd is ready to relinquish the belts. So, what that means is Spence can get a fight against Thurman or Porter or whoever and win those belts.
I thought Spence was Haymons fighter. I don't see his name on Mayweather Promotions marquee. Spence is good but let's not rush him to the top yet. He needs to fight the Soto Karass and Andre Berto's of the world first.
He's signed to TMT promotions. And, they are working on getting him a title fight soon. He won't be fighting Berto or Karass next for one of Floyd's belts--assuming Floyd gives them up.
