apparently pac or spence have not faced any southpaw fighters that I could find. this makes it awkward for both fighters stepping on each others work. spence has a good right hook, and pac has the manila ice but who is more susceptible to the right hook. I watched pac in training he looked slower than usual and the sparring plan looked like he wants spence to fight off the back foot. but does pac have the speed to make spence do that. I think speed and the right hook are keys in this fight, since neither of these guys have shown anything in the orthodox stance. I just hope pac does not age in the ring on that night.
Exactly, the old man (as it were) is still fighting the best his division has to offer in his mid 40's. Where as his opponent has already wasted years of his presumable prime fighting almost no one of note except a handful of Miss Congeniality's of his division. The good guy for me in this scenario is the old man still daring to be great, and attempting to build on his already incredible legacy. Maybe Pac should try to fight one of the Paul brothers like someone else I might mention, I'd consider him evil in that instance.
Well said. This really show how afraid so many new stars are of facing top comp. How the Charlo bros, ESJr, or TC have such shallow resumes at age 30 is a huge tell on today's boxing.
Agapito Sanchez was a lefty, as were a few Thai fighters Pac fought before he really blasted off worldwide.
I blame the promoters. they are milking the networks, offering a undefeated fighter demanding top dollar. the individual fighter is getting paid, but the promoter with all the fighters, gets paid just as much because even though the fighter is fighting once a year, the promoter gets paid everytime one of his fighters enters the ring. Nobody wins except the promoter. fans lose, fighters lose, and a entire legacy era of boxing is robbed.
They deserve some blame. As do the fighters. And if these guys want to milk their careers for more money and little accomplishment, that's their thing and is fine. But yeah, we lose out as fans.
Pac fought some southpaws earlier in his career. Pac obliterated southpaw Prayat Sawaingam in a round. Later on JMM would be stripped of his IBF and then his WBA super title when nobody bid on a mandated fight between him and Sawaingam. Before Pac fought Morales he beat southpaw Narongrit Pirang in convincing fashion. Hard to gauge how Pac would deal with Spence based off of these fights though as these guys were so over matched which won't be the case vs Spence. The right hook as a lead or a counter could very well be crucial as a foil to Spence's left hook to the liver. Spence likes to throw it when guys rush him but if Pac can beat him to the punch or feint him to lead with the left and drop his guard and then counter with the right hook he could use one of Spence's best punches against him. How Pac deals with Spence longer lead hand will be an issue too. Spence likes to extend it to block opponents view or control their head, manipulating his opponent into positions where he can unload. If Spence can control Pac this way like he does everyone else he could very well take away Pac's ability to create angles to attack. Speed will definitely be key. If Pac is still fast enough to close the distance and land then Spence's usual tactic of stepping back to counter will back fire as Pac can beat him to the counter by stepping inside Spence's lead hand and launching that vicious left hand straight and then following up with the right hook, driving Spence back. If Spence isn't quick enough to get out of the way then and find home for a counter like JMM did after eating Pac's left then he's in for a painful night.
Spence skills are subtle, but he’s very good. He’s a decorated amateur, that doesn’t happen being a plodder like Margarito. The style is to Pacs advantage, usually, but not anymore. Before, pac was the guy who would beat someone with volume, he might be the guy to get beat with volume in this fight. Reminds me of Merchants quote on ODLH killing fighters with speed as Pac killed him with speed.
Strong exaggeration. 2 years, so what? Floyd came out of 2 years all the time. Pac is coming out of 2 years now. Thurman dominated Lopez outside of getting hit to the body. He got caught so what. And Lopez was a tuneup fight. If he was 70% for Lopez, he was 100% for Pac. It’s like saying Fury that fought Wilder was shite because he didn’t look great in his previous tuneup fight. I mean, that’s the whole point of the tuneup. Thurman beat Porter about as convincingly as Spence did. So you could say Thurman = Spence based on that performance. Spence size and pressure and volume is what’s troubling here for an old man Pac. Had this been a prime Pac, I woulda picked Pac by KO provided this was before everyone knew to survive Pac rather than “pressure” him ala Cotto, Hatton.
