Arguello, Monzon, Beterbiev and Foreman were plodders just like Spence. What's the difference? They punch through a steel wall.
Everyone thinks he’s basic, slow, and limited but he keeps beating every top opponent he faces. Just because he lacks a flashy style doesn’t mean he sucks.
I don't rate him as highly as some but he doesn't suck. He is far from basic, much of what he does in subtle but I do think he is some what limited in that there's a definite ceiling as to how high he can go with his current style. He struggled with Brook and Porter and that shows us he's basically just slightly better than them and I wouldn't rate Porter or Brook as greats. Spence is a very good fighter but he's got a long way to go to prove he's a great. He may be the best welter of his generation but even if he is, he isn't head and shoulder above the rest in an era which isn't particularly deep.
I agree he got Thurman at the right time it was a calculated risk that paid off and full credit to Pac for getting the win. Pac used his experience and caught Thurman off guard in the first round and that knock down set the tone for the early rounds had Thurman been a bit more cautious early I think that he would've won. I doubt Spence will make that mistake he also is made of tougher steel than Thurman so Pac will not be able to hurt him as easily. This could be the fight where Pac finally catches a beat down I don't recall anybody ever being able to deliver a sustained body attack to Pacquaio which is what I think Spence will do as he has the size and skill to do it.
I am not confident at all the Spence can beat Pacquiao Manny will take away his belt and his seat belt
There's a reason why nobody previously has been able to work the body of Pac. It means dropping your guard and exposing your chin, like in the 3rd round of the 2nd fight with JMM. JMM throws his signature left hook to the body, Pac throws a short left hook counter and drops JMM. How Spence manhandles his opponents is his greatest strength if he can make it a physical fight, manipulate Pac's guard and push him around to control Pac's position then he might very well be able to put a concerted effort downstairs unlike anyone before. If that happens then yes Pac will probably get beat down. I think early on Pac will have enough speed and throw enough to stop Spence from doing this but later in the fight when he fades that's when we could see him start to take more damage and get a possible beat down.
I'm well, thanks. I've applied for a place at Joe Gallagher's Academy, which seems promising. Otherwise, I've just been at work and college.
Because Spence isn't a plodder. Neither is Canelo or GGG; who along with Spence are three of the best boxers of this era, all apparently with 'slow' feet, yet all seemingly able to dictate the range of a fight. Good footwork is not 'fast feet' or flamboyant lateral movement. Good footwork is manoeuvring opponents into the range at which you want to dictate the fight. Small, subtle movements are all it takes. Fury has remarkable footwork because of what he can do considering his size and weight combined with an absurd VO2 Max but it's not great movement. But take GGG; he's always edging forwards or backwards and, at his very best, was able to be in range when he wanted to throw and just out of it when he needed to defend. None of this movement was fast. Spence is similar. Boxers with fast (good ) feet can end up being predictable because they rely largely on an athletic advantage, then when they gas and slow, a lack of intelligence of movement can be exposed in some cases (Khan). No, the very best footwork is the efficient, energy-saving, subtle placement of feet for maximum return with minimum effort. Spence displays this quality. He doesn't plod...
GGG did plod even in his prime. Which is why he was so much easier to hit than a guy like Kovalev who had much tighter defense.
