I could be mistaken, but I am fairly certain Pacquiao's team checked off "no" on the form inquiring about pre-existing injuries.
That's possible. It could just be down to incredible bad luck, but as I said, I still find it very suspicious given the timing. And you need to get it out of your head that fighters wouldn’t duck a payday, they do so all the time. It’s short term vs long term. Spence struggled with Porter similarly to Thurman, based off that performance, they are similar levels and look at what happened to Thurman. Floyd delayed the fight for 5 years to protect his 0, and didn’t want a rematch for another easy $200mil to protect that 0. Like it or not, Pac was injured, a lot of controversy around that, he rematches Maidana and Castillo but fought Berto instead of a Pac rematch. That could only come down to him weighing risk/reward. JMM turned down a $100mil payday to rematch Pac. He wanted to end with a win and a payday was not worth ending that rivalry on a loss. Arum didn’t make the Crawford fight for the longest time for this reason. Why risk the new cash cow for the old one about to leave him? Spence thought he could beat old man Pac with or without injury. So he signed the fight knowing full well he was injured as it was too good an opportunity. Fight approaches and Pac looked to be the most motivated ever. It simply wasn’t worth losing this fight, and he had a VERY real chance of losing the fight. Odds had it close to 50/50. So why not pull the injury card he’s been holding all along? Pac very likely beats Ugas, if he stays on, Spence gets to beat someone who has to be completely shot but the same name nonetheless. Risk/reward.
His team did, because the fight can’t go ahead with an injury. However, that’s based on the fact that his team was assured by USADA that toradol shots to the shoulder would be fine. Pac obviously weighed his options and he thought that he would rather continue with the fight he had been chasing for 5 years, with an injury but some pain management. Can you imagine the backlash had he backed out? Lmao. The same people here crying about “why you question Spence’s injury” would be swarming all over that, that’s a fact. The problem is, USADA tricked him. Pac was not allowed the toradol shot to his shoulder (headache with a shot to his shoulder lmao), meanwhile they gave Floyd a TUE 21 days after the fight. Floyd did not tick any boxes for TUE pre-fight btw, he fkin ticked it 21 days after the fight. That was a chit show of the highest order and had the roles been reversed, Pac would have been crucified.
I agree with some of what you're saying here. But what are you basing "the fight can't go ahead with an injury"? That was not my understanding, that checking "yes" automatically means no fight. Pac's team checked "no" on his questionnaire under penalty of perjury. The Floyd issue is also troublesome, no question. But in the case of Pacquiao, it's baffling why they would lie (or make an honest mistake) about a serious injury. Where did you see it reported that the fight would automatically be cancelled if Pac followed the rules and revealed his injury?
I’m not sure why the boxed was ticked no. It was ticked no by his team probably as an after thought. Why tick you have an injury when you’re going ahead with the fight anyways? EVERYTHING corroborates pac’s story. On April 4, Pacquiao suffered a twisted right shoulder when he and a sparring partner tangled while each threw overhand rights. Two days later, he was examined, and a tear underneath the rotator cuff in a joint was found, and he was given a cortisone shot to alleviate the pain, said his manager, Michael Koncz. The injury limited Pacquiao’s ability to train with his right hand. In an interview at his hotel suite Sunday, Pacquiao said he went into the fight with his right arm functioning at 60%. - there were reports he missed a couple of days at training camp. But Pacquiao’s camp was told by his orthopedist that he could take the injection if he wanted, and USADA approved the in-competition use of the remedy in a document. - this was not once disputed by USADA. “That specific treatment had been approved by USADA in writing at least five days before the fight,” according to the statement. Pacquiao attorney David Marroso said USADA informed the camp that Toradol did not require a Therapeutic Use Exemption to be used in the in-competition period. - Now unless this lawyer is trying to lose his license, we can take it as fact that Pac did indeed approach USADA about getting a TUE for his injured shoulder BEFORE the fight, not 21 days after. So when Pacquiao’s team, with two doctors in his dressing room, prepared for the injection, the commission stopped it. - again, this was never disputed by NSAC, in fact, the admitted to stopping the injection. So what do we have here, what facts? 1) Pac informed USADA of the injury and USADA assured him in writing that he doesn’t need a TUE and he’ll be able to use the toradol shots. An injection to his shoulder so I don’t know how the moron above can claim it was for a headache. 2) Pac tried to get injected with 2 doctors president at the dressing room but was stopped by NSAC. Confirmed. 3) A surgery, a confirmation from the surgeon that Pac had a torn rotator cuff. Pac’s story was that he was going to fight on through the pain and get some shots to manage the pain. In the 4th round he hurt his shoulder. He said it hurt to throw it. The Pacquiao statement read, “This was disappointing ... since [we] had disclosed the injury and treatment to USADA ... and Manny listed the medication on his pre-fight medical form. “With the advice of his doctors, Manny still decided to proceed with the fight. His shoulder wasn’t perfect, but it had improved in training camp.” “It felt like a needle was being stuck into my shoulder,” he said. Basically, there is undeniable proof that Pac came into the fight with a torn rotator cuff that he expected pain management for but never got. Certainly more proof than Spence’s injury and suspicious timing but hey, double standards. Furthermore; The head of the US Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) told the Associated Press that Pacquiao either "made a terrible mistake to not follow the rules or they were trying not to give information to the other side." If Pacquiao were trying to keep the injury hidden from Mayweather, it may have been a futile move as there is evidence a "mole" in Pacquiao's camp leaked information to Team Mayweather prior to the fight. If true, Mayweather almost certainly knew about the injury. So there is your reason as to why he ticked no. He didn’t want Floyd taking advantage of the situation. Trial him for perjury for all I care, fact remains, he was injured. And even the chairman of usada tried to make a last minute appeal for the treatment. “Chairman Francisco Aguilar said there was no proof of injury and he was not comfortable allowing Pacquiao to fight with a numbed shoulder, as that could make an existing injury worse. A last-minute appeal that included confirmation of the treatment from the chairman of Usada was denied.” And I’m suspicious of uSADA as it is as they were in Floyds pocket. Could have very well been a setup so that usada knew about the injury but decide to not let Nevada know knowing full well he’ll be denied on the night of the fight.
As for no fight if injured. It is my assumption that a fighter wouldn’t be allowed to fight if injured, hence why there is a health check beforehand, hence why Spence isn’t allowed to fight, hence why lying about an injury carries a perjury crime. It is also my experience from the amateurs and Id imagine that the health and safety rules are the same. A bad hand, sure. A torn rotator cuff, no. I could certainly be wrong but in boxing, you are always told to hide your weakness. When you get hit and it hurts, you smile, everything is a mental game. Wtf would Pac team openly disclose to Floyds team that he’s injured. That’s going into the fight already beaten.
As far as the Pac injury being discussed goes, I will say that I was shocked to read it was his right arm back when he said that because as the fight was unfolding I kept talking about his left was non existent. So when he said it right after, I assumed he was talking about his left shoulder. Also, not sure what checking the box will do to tip Floyd off. Was Floyd going to change his 5 year long strategy with five days to go before the fight? Sounds like a bad idea. If you're in that group that believes he made the NSAC deny the shot, then he and his camp already knew anyway. As for USADA having approved of a pain reliever shot the night of the fight in advance... Well that's great except USADA/VADA/WADA had no jurisdiction. That's why it was denied. So that is Pacquiao or his teams' fault, a self made problem.
Except USADA apparently had the jurisdiction to administer BANNED IV infusion to Floyd and had the audacity to apply for a TUE 21 days after the fight, whilst "forgetting" to inform NSAC about Pac's TUE. Smells like a set up. Here's how the events unfolded: 1. Pac tore his shoulders during sparring. This was verified by the doctors, by USADA, by the sparring partner. Even Floyd's camp indirectly verified this when they said they know Pac skipped camp training day, they had a mole in there, Ellerbe admitted it and that's why Roach moved camp to Fortunes gym. 2. Pac and his team informed USADA as they were probably misinformed as they felt USADA was handling all these drugs stuff. So they get a written statement from USADA to say that they do not need a TUE for toradol shot to his shoulders. They got the shot to the shoulder 2 weeks before the fight and it felt better, though not 100%, so Pac decided to fight on. 3. Pac was denied by NSAC with his 2 doctors to administer toradol shot to his shoulder, USADA conveniently forgot to tell NSAC about this shoulder injury, the same way they conveniently forgot to declare Floyds TUE pre-fight (apparently he was dehydrated from making weight so he needed IV lmao). Again, shoutout to the moron who thinks that a shot to a shoulder is for a headache. ffs. The NSAC even clarified why they denied this, so it's not like Pac is making it up. 4. Pac specifically said he was wary of throwing his right hand, he backed off Floyd cos of his shoulder and he threw the least punches in his history of boxing. And people can say that was Floyd and that's all well and good. But that's just denial, only Pac would know, he has a confirmed injury, you're denying his experience. That's like if Spence fought with the detached retina, gets his eye badly hurt during the fight, you cite retina issue as the cause and we say "naaaaa, it was Pac that tore that chit up!". 5. Pac had a confirmed surgery on his shoulder post-fight. Now unless you think Pac pre-planned the letter to USADA, shut down camp for a couple of days to make this seem more believable, paid his sparring partner and lawyers to lie for him about the injury, paid the doctor to lie about his injury, bluffed NSAC to take a toradol shot to his shoulder pre-fight, and then OF ALL FIGHTs, he goes into the Floyd fight healthy and just happens to tear his shoulder and that is why he has a shoulder surgery afterwards, then Pac was undeniably injured for the fight. Floyd beat an injured man. And if you really think all of those sequence of events were planned so Pac had the most elaborate fake injury plan ever, then I don't know what to say, you are beyond help.
That's all good. But the fight was agreed with joint USADA and VADA cooperation. USADA the demand from Floyd's side. VADA the demand from Pac. Both were almost literally on the payroll. VADA said Pac could get the shot. But VADA doesn't have any say in NSAC matters. Only their own contracts with the fighters. So that is to blame on Pacs management, not much else. Perhaps you don't like the way it is, but that is how it is and all parties knew. You are forgetting that VADA and USADA were involved. VADA, Pacs demand, is actually what you have said multiple times was USADA's place in the debacle. And therein lies the issue for representing the Pacquiao side of the story.
Also this injury is from a 2008 jet ski accident. Yes; 2008. And if you read quotes they made in the months after, they backed way off initial claims. I think it was Freddie who said it wasn't bothering him through camp any more than any other camp and the surgery should have happened years ago. They backed off from initial dramatics and that isn't a good look either. Same as discussion for any injury in boxing there's always some shadiness and mystique. Just funny Pac fans are dogging Spence when he has one of the most infamous "but I was injured!" moments in boxings history.
I don't see how all that is relevant. The fact remains that Pac was an injured fighter who was denied a cortisol shot, whilst Floyd was given cortisol shots to his hand and had illegal banned IV infusion and TUE 21 days after the fight. Pac's contract with Floyd also clearly states that Pac's camp be informed of any TUE application by Floyd which was clearly violated. So whether Pac's team is ******ed or not, whether they committed perjury or not is irrelevant to me. The only thing I'm discussing here is whether Pac was injured or not, and it is irrefutable that he was given all of the evidence. That's like Spence going ahead with the fight and the eye injury surfaces afterwards as an excuse. Excuse or not, he was still fkn injured with a detached retina, all the other stuff is quite irrelevant to the actual boxing.
The difference is Pac fought through the injury. That's the funny part. Pac FOUGHT with an injury, how do you not see the difference. The logic I'm question is: - Pac fights with an injury - not a legitimate excuse - Spence cancels a fight due to injury - oh yes, injuries will affect your ability to fight negatively, def cancel the fight, perfect excuse. Also, I don't see how that disproves anything? The injury recurred in sparring. It happened initially in 2008, there was an injury in sparring for 2015 fight and they cancelled camp the following day. They put some cortisol shots on it, was getting better, recurred again in the 4th round of the fight.
World famous surgeon with an elite clientele confirmed injury and surgery = lie Spence provides no actual proof = the truth
You believe Spence knew he had an injury for awhile. If that's the case how can it be a duck? If the medical exam showed a torn retina, it's the doctor that prevented Spence from fighting. Even if Spence wanted to fight, he couldn't. And you are wrong about Floyd waiting 5 years for Manny to get old. Watch the All Access episode for the MayPac fight. Roach admits that The fight could have been made sooner, but due to Manny not wanting to get stuck with needles the fight didn't happen. So, it isn't 100% Floyd's fault the fight took so long to materialize.
