Before the highly anticipated showdown between Spence and Crawford, Errol should give the fans what we want before facing Bud.... I nominate Blair Cobbs to face Errol Spence two hours before the Bud fight as an appetizer. Am I a marketing genius now?
As glassy as Spence's chin has seemed since that accident, even a fragile fighter with fairly heavy hands early, like Cobbs is not worth the risk to screw up a payday like that. I mean, getting rocked by Ugas should be very worrying to all Spence fans out there.
I have a feeling that after Charlo vacates the 154 titles Spence will move up to 154 and fight Keith Thurman, avoiding Crawford, Ennis and Ortiz.
Why? Because Cobbs, who's a southpaw got stopped by another southpaw in Rocha? Boxing is crazy like that. Rocha struggled with Brad Solomon and should've taken an L, meanwhile Cobbs destroyed Solomon in similar fashion to Vergil Ortiz, yet Maurice Hooker was stopped by Ortiz and Cobbs couldn't close the show. Ugas is a featherfist who couldn't legit KO Mike Dallas, stylewise, yes... he's a threat, power wise, Spence should've had nothing to fear. Boxing is crazy like that sometimes. So no, it's probably not a good idea to fight 2 matches in one night. Especially if you're going to be focusing on the second one during the first one, that's a good way to get yourself KTFO.
Was that the punch where Spence was looking for his mouth guard? Only a small wobble lol and he was clearly an idiot for not protecting himself
I'd assume both would benefit from a tuneup, but it should have been early this summer rather than right before the fight. Now that I think of it, though, it seems like such a natural solution for slow starters I wonder if anyone has ever tried sparring before the fight instead of doing mitts.
Spence fought less than four months ago and Crawford hasn't had a bout since last year. If anyone needs a tune up it would be Bud but he doesn't need one either. Sign the fight now and have the fight in November or December. Life would be good.
Errol came off a 15 month layoff and put on maybe his best boxing display against Danny Garcia. Then he had a 16 month layoff and put on his most gruesome performance against Ugas. That’s a guy who openly says he don’t believe in tuneups and proved it with those performances.
