Everyone knows I love Erroll Spence and he is my guy. I have written no less in Boxing News that he is mix of the mindset mentality of Marvin Hagler, the body punching ability of Mike McCallum and the fundamental skill set of Donald Curry. Spence is a problem for anybody he get there in with particularly in this era however Spence at his best from what we have seen to date cannot beat Floyd Mayweather. Spence himself says Floyd cannot be beaten mentally which is true but no one has been able to beat Floyd Physically either. You will note Spence comments are conditional on him being 100% focused. Therein lies a tale in itself because Floyd is always 100%. People have tried what Spence thinks is the key but there is a big difference between Floyd and Shawn Porter skills wise.
It's not like Mayweather is unbeatable and now Mayweather is in his 40s so if he returned he's going to be more beatable than he was in his prime. I just think Spence has the tools to beat Mayweather however it's unclear if Spence is the same fighter he was after the car accident.
Mayweather is not coming back nor should he as he is now approaching his mid 40s. We are talking about both fighters at their peak. Floyd is a business man, boxing promoter and boxing trainer.
Yes, Floyd is coming back to fight again. He's broke! He's in a huge debt. That's what I heard about him. So, if he is doing so then Spence, Crawford, and Pacquiao could be his next opponent.
He is not broke at all but that is what people like to hear. There is no need for him to come back. If he fought again it won’t be against a boxer it will be against Khabib and Conor on the same night knock Conor out tgen spark Khabib. Those are not fights just easy money multimillion exhibitions for Floyd.
I am not saying he should but the challenge and novelty factor would be to beat 2 MMA champions and stars on the same night one after the other. If it generates another $300 Million dollar purse you can’t blame him for taking it as it’s easy money.
I thought you said, you believed Floyd was broke? Wouldn't Connor be the fight he would take if he needed money?
Plenty of guys tried to "go to the body" that alone isn't the code. I think what Castillo was able to do so well was use good foot work and a good jab to maintain distance and was selective with his shots and countered floyds jab pretty well He didn't just rush in and make it a toe to toe fight he boxed very well Some guys like Mosley and maidana and Cotto exposed some openings but floyd adjusted and they couldn't It takes a solid boxer to do this
We must not also underestimate the impact of the torn rotator cuff injury in the first Castillo fight.
I believe he injured it in fight week before the fight and got aggravated during the fight. He really should have pulled out but he demonstrated the heart of a champion.
They all said that about Floyd. Then they tried implementing it and it didn't work and they got beat. Im a big fan of Spence but Floyd beat better fighters than Spence will ever be.
