Terrible fight for Spence Jr. Will do nothing for his profile after a early rounds KO win.

The Dallas Newspaper ran a good article on Spence in the Sunday newspaper.
The Sportswriter said the problem is the Promoters Arum vs PBC not wanting to
work together to make a Crawford v Spence unification fight.

A fight between DeSoto's Errol Spence Jr., Bud Crawford makes perfect sense. But it still might not happen soon.

Moments after Terence "Bud" Crawford retained one of boxing's major welterweight titles last Saturday, he had the honor of fielding a question generally reserved for champions.

    Who's next?

After Crawford knocked out the previously unknown Jose Benavidez Jr. on Saturday night, the focus shifted to his future opponent. Naturally, one comes to mind -- DeSoto's Errol Spence Jr. Like Crawford, Spence holds a major belt at the 147-pound division and is considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Spence didn't fight Saturday, but he did join a special echelon reserved for top fighters -- a guy who might not fight one of the best in the sport because of boxing's politics. And in a weird way, it confirms Spence's status as a premier fighter.

The men have rival promoters and network affiliations, which could cause a hiccup in a fight between them. Spence (24-0, 21 KOs) and Crawford are undefeated, in the same weight class and appear to be in the prime of their careers.

Just because it makes sense for Spence and Crawford (34-0, 25 KOs) to fight each other in 2019, it doesn't mean it will actually happen. After Crawford stopped Benavidez in the 12th round to win to defend his WBO welterweight title, he said he's more interested in fighting than
    matchmaking.

"I want 'em all," Crawford told ESPN during his postfight interview. "I've been saying that all along. It ain't my job to get the fights done.

"It's my job to want to fight the fights that everybody wants to see, and I've been calling for all of 'em ever since I moved up in the division."

Crawford said it's up to legendary promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank to find his next fight. The only problem is the other top welterweights, including Spence, fight in Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions.

Spence has successfully defended his IBF welterweight belt twice this year. He stopped former titlist Lamont Peterson in Brooklyn and knocked out the overmatched Carlos Ocampo at The Star in Frisco in June.

It makes sense for Spence to fight Shawn Porter (29-2, 17 KOs) in a unification bout. Porter beat Danny Garcia to win the WBC belt on a PBC card in September.

But on Oct. 7, Spence sent out a tweet that said "I need a fight," which indicates he's still looking for his next opponent.

One could argue a bout between Spence and Crawford would be among the biggest in all of combat sports. While neither fighter has fought on pay-per-view yet, both have headlined cards on their respective networks (Spence fights on Showtime, while Crawford is with ESPN).

The most confrontation between the men is a Twitter exchange between them in July when they bantered about their promotional companies and being on the "wrong side of the street."

On a conference call before Crawford's fight against Benavidez, Top Rank president Todd duBoef said he wants to make the best fights for one of the sport's best fighters, regardless of promotional affiliation.

"We've done the biggest fights with the biggest complications of all time," duBoef said. "He wants to take on the biggest. We want to provide the biggest."

Right now, no fight seems bigger than a potential showdown between Spence and Crawford. But both men and fans will have to wait to see if their promoters can make a deal happen.

dont pay for the fights. i love spence but i wouldnt pay for this fight. promoters need to see that the only way they are going to make money is by matching their guys with opponents that matter. thats the only way that matters for a fan to determine which fights get made. it probably wont make a bit of difference, but at least im doing my part.
boxing is not dead, the money and fans are there, its just that the promoters are the ones who decide what goes on your plate from this buffet, so youre gonna get a lot of pork. save your money for the steak.

Horrible, in house PBC fight when plenty of decent in house PBC fights could have been made. I figured Spence/Porter was a perfect fight to line up.

Al is getting too greedy. Just like Bob and Oscar before him, and keeping big fights from getting made more and more often.

This is a joke. And I'm saying this as a fan who likes both Spencs and Collazo.

It's what the PBC does except for 1 time a year when they have a fight like Garcia vs Porter.

The PBC can only afford to pay Spence's salary once maybe twice a year.

''The Truth'' is starting to build himself up a nice little resume on his sub KO 50% Featherfist Tour.

    Was that intentional irony?

If so, pretty good. Reminds me of one of mine.
