Nah, you can't knock everyone out. I never saw Mikey getting stopped in this one. I predicted it was going to be 9-3 Spence. I scored it 118-110 Spence. What does this fight really tell us? Garcia dared to be a special fighter. But, he was in way over his head, he tried but was just too small. To be super impressed it was Mikey to win or even make it competitive (he didn't) or Spence by ko. You don't knock out everyone no shame in going the distance with a guy that's never been stopped.
I dont think he took it easy on Garcia... I think it was a combination of him not punching as hard as people think, Mikeys defense was on point quite a bit, and him showing Mikeys power too much respect. I dont buy into the 'he went easy on him' at this level. There were plenty of times Spence was unleashing on him. Spence was fighting in what he felt was his home town... he would have loved a stoppage.
I agree 100% Spence was throwing arm punches and mostly single punches and some ones and twos. He did not get out of second gear.
I think you meant he respected Garcia a lot. Why do you think his corner told him to box smart. Stay low, do not over reach shorten your shots.
LDBC in damage control mode Denial is a beautiful thing to witness.. A big WW backed up by a LW! Was that intentional too?? Funny, cos I saw him throw the kitchen sink at him so I don't know what you were watching! LOL
This. Spence tried going for the stoppage a few times against his coach’s wishes, but each time he tried to turn it up he was leaving himself wide open for a counter right and Mikey like Danny Garcia is extremely durable, so there isn’t any shame in being unable to stop them. Spence wisely went back to just racking up points, since why risk getting countered when you have such a lopsided lead on points.
I don't think he took it easy, but he followed a gameplan and that gameplan was use his reach and outbox him. If he went in there to put on that pressure and stop him, I think he could have but he would have made the fight tougher than it was.
NO, NOT EVEN CLOSE. Spence has overrated power, Mikey has solid defense. Errol was going all out for the KO, he threw everything he had, but he could not ge the job done. Simple as that. For the record, if you think that that's a fighter "taking it easy" on someone, what the hell is your definition of going all out?
He easily could had ko'd him but he preferred an easy sparring season. Why KO someone when you are having fun beating them up for a longer time.
Excuses, excuses, excuses. Meanwhile had GGG gone the distance against Brook you'd have been bouncing off the walls like a giddy drunk off his ass hummingbird for the new ammo you'd been gifted.
Spence tried his hardest to KTFO Mikey. This was a fight between two guys who cannot fight on the inside.
Spence was absolutely trying to get him out of there. The only criticism I have of Spence is his defense can be shoddy at times and his power might be a tad overrated. He's more of a "break you down in a war of attrition" type of fighter. He doesn't possess one punch KO power (although his bodyshots can drop pretty much anyone if placed well enough.) He gets a lot of his stoppages from breaking guys down like he did with Kell brook (his best fight by far IMO.) Mikey's chin held up a lot better than I expected. I remember him getting rocked at 130 lbs I believe and I thought to myself there's no possible way he can hold up a full 12 rounds with Spence unless he's constantly back peddling all fight. Mikey stood his ground and took Errol's best shots and kept trying.
If Spence had fought the same he did in the 9th rd, starting from the 6 th onward, he could have easily stopped Mikey. He did not because he decided he was going to let Mikey survive. Things happen behind the scenes. GGG-Canelo...
