I'm not sold on that. I suppose The Ring felt obliged to rate him after he captured the WBA's regular strap (did they rate him prior to that? I don't recall), but there isn't much of substance to assert Lamont's Top 10 legitimacy at 147lb. He's just one of a number of guys who could be mooted for such a spot. As for what he offers Spence; Peterson's outfighting has always been the weaker half of his game, so I can't see him having too much success that way. And, though he is an educated infighter, he's dealing with a guy who is plenty capable in close quarters as well as bigger and harder hitting. I'd be surprised if Errol hasn't gotten rid of Lamont before the bell to start the 9th round, honestly. It's a typically flat piece of Haymon matchmaking, by my estimation. I wouldn't mind these kinds of fights if the guys were fighting more often. But when they're fighting twice a year at best, it's just poor.
Ok fight with a slight mismatch feeling to it. Spence is a clear favourite. I think his stock will drop if he fails to deliver a KO.
errol wins late ko or UD. if hes looking for ko he can get it but hes gonna pound the body like usual and get him outta there around round 10
If peterson can avoid those occasional body assaults we saw spence do against brook, he has a good chance. But he has to be on the top of his game for 12 rounds. If he gets stuck on the ropes against spence it's game over cause those body flurries will take their tole later on in the fight, as they did against brook. And peterson is not as physically tough and durable as brook, so those body flurries will really damage him big time. Being a smaller welterweight than spence, he has movement on his side at least. That movement speed might help him to box spence effectively. Peterson needs to keep his range, box on the back foot. But he needs to not let himself get near those ropes. He can box spence by jumping in and out of range, getting jabs in along the way. That is the only way I see him beating spence. If he does that, I see him winning 7 rounds to 5 or 8 rounds to 4 on points. But if he gets on those ropes even once, he's in serious trouble. And I see that happening, so I'm gonna give it to spence by TKO. But I wouldn't be surprised if peterson can pull this off.
I think that this fight will be a lot more contested than people are anticipating. Peterson is a lot more elusive than Brook and Brook was putting in good work. I wouldn't be surprised if he outpointed Spence.
I wouldn't be surprised either if Peterson won but would he get it on the cards against haymons new star because alot had him beating Garcia including me and Imo he got robbed
I’m scratching my head trying to understand how a de-roided guy who hasn’t had a meaningful win since 2011, and never at welterweight, is a “solid fight.” You guys must really think Spence is garbage.
It made for decent enough viewing, but I don't regret this assessment. When the guys are so inactive, these kinds of (mis)matches are a bitter pill.
