It was his first step up fight and it was a huge one at that. Fury probably lost to McDermott at a young age, its almost as if people don't think fighters can get better

    Spencer Fearon chasing headlines.....

He's a young kid, I don't think Joyce had even started fighting at his age(?) or if he had he wasn't very long into the game and AJ was still a few years off turning pro.

I expect he'll take this hard but by all accounts he lives in the gym so I'm sure he'll go away and improve. The problem is that (and hindsight is a good thing) he hasn't had the fights to bring him through correctly before stepping in with an experienced tough n rough fighter like Joe Joyce with a quality amateur background. You need fights which bridge those gaps so that when you do step up you are prepared, that's not been the case for Dubois.

Credit to both men that they took this fight given the stages of there careers because we see it so little nowadays.

DD is not cut out for this game. He's made his millions (from us) and has done what he did.

    Just go.

That is true. However, some boxers have more scope than others. Dianabol Dubois has his plus points, he has a good jab, quite fast hands and has good power. But he is also stiff, slow footed and was absolutely gassed in the corner after 2 rounds. He is a better version of a lot of stiff, hypertrophic boxers. Tyson Fury showed some versatility, chin, hand speed, foot speed, power and flair early on in his career and he had only just turned 21 years old in the first McDermott bout and then he smashed McDermott aged 21, too.

Fury had a lot of good learning fights after that, and he sometimes had to learn the hard way by being reckless. He took an incredible amount of stick for being put down and getting back up against dubious opposition, but it shaped him. He learnt from it, where many others wouldn't have.

I think Dianabol Dubois has his place in the division. He's definitely no joke, but his stiffness will be an issue against any high level fluid boxer. He needs to ditch the hypertrophy and consult with his "sports doctor", because his current protocol is not optimal against particular types of opposition. It's ideal against your British/low-Euro level brawler, but I think it will hold him back against many.

I agree with you Safin. He wasn't as good as I had hoped and I doubt he ever makes it to the very top. It's just funny people calling for someone to retire after losing once to a good opponent. It's like they think there is only room for 10 boxers in the world, and anyone not on that level must retire immediately. There's guys who make their living as punching bags ffs

I have no idea how far he can go. It'll be interesting to see how he does when he is genuinely challenged again, and that might be a while away.

Because boxing is a sport where there can be 4 "world champions", I think a lot of boxers can end up being a belt holder. Look at Charles Martin. He ended up the IBF holder after his opponent, Glazkov, blew his knee out. Glazkov hasn't been seen since and it was his only loss.
The current crop of top heavyweights are all into their 30's, so who knows what the heavyweight landscape will look like when Dubois is 28. I would love to see him face Murat Gassiev.

Personally, I think it's quite obvious that Nathan Gorman will be the undisputed heavyweight champion, but aside from that...

A 23 year old prospect, quite a nervous and shy one, loses his 16th professional fight, opting to quit when his eye closed shut as a result of a fractured eye socket, people queue up to almost revel in criticising and question his heart. That's pretty messed up, pretty sick. It's not like Daniel Dubois had built up some big reputation and media personality ie. Mayweather jnr, where you want him to lose and be humbled badly. He's a quiet 23 year old that is trying to work his way to the big pay days and up until Saturday, when he fought what could be a World Champion in the very near future, he was making a real good go of it. He was doing alright on Saturday too but he clearly felt that another 6 and a half minutes in that condition weren't minutes he was going to win so rather than almost certainly end up worse off and losing he opted to quit. A decision he had to make in the moment about his well being, his career and his life. It's not like Ron or Gary leaving the building site early to go to Wetherspoons, this is serious stuff.

Spencer 'fame hungry attention seeking' Fearon. This guy was sacked from Sky because he talks **** and favours a particular race of fighter. He should stick to his Youtube blogs with babatunda ajayi.

I do not understand why anyone would listen to anything Fearon has to say about boxing. Unless its the date of some random fight from the 1800's, he doesn't know anything

You apparently can’t question Dubois because he’s a nice guy, very strange post.

The manner in which many have questioned it is wrong.

People almost revelling in him quitting and losing like he's some Mayweather jnr or Mayorga type figure is just bang out wrong.
