Spinks who beat holmes for the title vs the Norton of broken jaw ft. Does spinks awkward style win the day or is Norton to strong for the former lght heavy?
Norton peek a boo style and fighting in a crouch and being aggressive while laying on the ropes made him vulnerable to big punchers. Spinks fought a similar style in Braxton and won on points. However Norton is bigger , stronger, hit harder and was a natural hw and this would be the difference. Norton on points.
Two of my favorites, both called 'awkward' and possessing dangerous overhand rights. Norton did well against boxers in general, and he'd have all the physical advantages here. I think he'd probably win by decision.
As much as I love the Jinx I'm having a hard time figuring out how he'd win this. Strangely enough these were BOTH guys with awkward styles so lord only knows what this fight would look like or how the judges would score it. As others have already mentioned, Norton was the bigger stronger man with an excellent track record against skilled boxers which is why picking Michael is so difficult. Perhaps if Spinks could manage to land enough of those solid right hands he might get lucky, but his true level of power above 200 was a question never really answered. For now I have to go with Ken.
Yep I see it much the same way. Ken would have been the more physical in the ring and would have been hurting spinks at times. I can see spinks surviving the hard hits and getting some of his own in, but not enough to deter Ken. It would go the distance I believe with Ken getting the win.
First time he catches Spinks solidly, the end would come soon. This ain't an aging Holmes, Norton beat Ali at least 2of the 3 fights clearly.
The latter scenario, definitely. Norton catches up with Spinks and stops him anytime between the sixth and tenth.
Spinks was just kind of lucky to move up and beat holmes when he did. If he'd faced holmes 3 or 4 years earlier spinks would have been soundly beaten. I liken it to the leonard Hagler fight. Sugar caught Hagler at just the right time. That's why I see Norton winning.
Don't forget when Holmes came into the rematch in top shape (for his age and career stage) he really should have got the decision as well.
