Thoughts? Have only seen highlight reels of Spinks light heavy career, from what Ive read hes easily top ten all time. Im much more familar with Hopkins, and was honestly impressed with his defense in a loss to Dawson. Michael Spinks vs Bernard Hopkins 175 break it down for me.
Spinks too busy, too awkward. Hopkins has nothing in the way of offensive firepower or volume to keep Spinks tentative or overly respectful. I think it gets increasingly ugly and higher contact the rounds go on. Hopkins is crafty enough not to get stopped probably, but I'd expect a wide Spinks decision.
Very awkward fight. Spinks lands the more important punches. But Hopkins has a way of nullifying everyone to a certain extent. Spinks UD
I love Hop's but Spinks would beat him handily IMHO! I wouldn't favor many to stop Hop's but Spinks would certainly be able to do it...I lean towards a wide Spinks decision, but Hop's better be careful in this one.
Hopkins would lose to a middleweight version of Spinks, to say nothing of a light heavyweight one. Even if Hopkins had the balls to fight him, a big if, he wouldn't have the balls to leave himself open in order to try and get to Spinks. Most likely a boring, Spinks shut out at light heavy weight.
The styles matchup would make it happen, although I'm not fond of putting fighters in different bodies. Spinks was the greater operator as well as the bigger, better guy. His light heavyweight reign was better than Hopkins' middleweight reign IMO, when you look at the actual quality of opponent faced and not just the length. Spinks' weight jumping achievement/opponent conquered is better than B-Hops. Hopkins' old age achievement is a brilliant one IMO though. I have Spinks in the 35-40 bracket, Hopkins 45-50. Off the top of my head at this precise moment anyway
