If he is right, then that would explain a lot!

I just love his answers there!

He names himself as the best in every category until power, then he unhesitatingly says Mike Tyson!

I like the balance between profound self belief, and honesty!

I don't think he mean't anybody specific. Just the fact that yeah they were around so there was bound to be someone that used them.

He has a lot of confidence but to be fair he was an excellent fighter.

Yeah he has a lot of confidence now but if you had to pick an example of a fighter who before and during a big fight showed absolutely no confidence in his ability to win that would be Spinks against Tyson.

He won all his big fights at 175 tho and against fine opposition not to mention moving up and beating Holmes at 7-1. He was a bit of a boy among men in the modern heavyweight division and any (previous) natural light heavyweight was going to be a lamb to the slaughter vs Tyson in reality.

At 175 he was the real deal.

I saw that video before and wondered who he was referring to, could be Tyson but mike was just about that big since he was 16, or he could have meant evander holyfield who was practically caught with it even though he never fought him

Such bull****. This is what people who have only seen one Spinks fight say. That one fight being Tyson. Then you go back and watch all of his fights, most of which are on film, and realize he always looked like that. The guy was just a goofy and awkward looking but that doesnt mean when that bell rang he wasnt a bad MF.

If someone were reading tea leaves of who mightve been using in the era, Spinks moving up to fight Holmes would check a lot of boxes considering how fast he put on that much muscle after hooking up with Mackie Shilstone.

Still a big Spinks fan, though. They weren't banned in boxing at the time, so I can't knock the guys who used what was alloowed.

There's nobody currently at 175 who I'd give a snowball's chance in Hell at beating the lightheavy Spinks, so yeah, he's correct that he'd dominate.

You know, one of my dream fights is 1960 Floyd Patterson vs 85-87 Michael Spinks. Very good matchup.

Since he felt Tyson's power up close and personal, he has to give props to the only man to ever floor him and stop him.

Actually Spinks used good tactics against Tyson, whether he was scared or not. It's just that Tyson was too much.

You can tell the difference between Spinks and Holyfield when they both moved up to heavyweight. Spinks seemed to be more "natural" as it were. If Spinks would've taken the same stuff Holyfield took, who knows how we would've fared as a modern day heavy.

Eating and weight lifting can explain that. With the right kind of diet and training regimen, gaining 20-25 pounds, even at 29 (which in real life is relatively young) is very plausible.
