They put some weird plastic Christmas wreath around Wójcicki's neck as he gives his victory interview. You'd think just hoisting up his IBF middleweight Intercontinental belt (of which he just made his first successful defense) would be celebratory ornamentation enough, but.. Germans are weird. This, we already knew.

In his first ten fights spanning from 2015 until 2017, his opponents had a combined record of 125-83-9 and he never went past eight rounds.

Now, though, he is 2-0 in championship length fights this year against his two best opponents to date (Mittag and Elbir having a combined 42-2-2 record as of when he fought them) and he defeated both in the 8-4/9-3 range.

Good to see a young talent stepping up at the correct pace and improving each time out.

 

Props to Elbir, though, he put up a much tougher fight than I was expecting. He could maybe be in the mix for a Euro title at some point.
