But even if that were the case, how can you say there won't be an asterisk by his name if the fight doesn't get made? And Pac might get the same asterisk, but it might not be as big and bright as Floyd's simply because history will likely remember the fact that his most famous work was done above his size. History loves David.

There is never a asterisk next to the name of people because of who they didn't fight. Will it be sad if they don't fight, hell yeah, will it tarnish either career upon reflection? Nope.

Manny's work was done north 130 on inferior comp. such as fighting the weakest champ at 135 in David Diaz when there were legit champs at the weight. Then jumping up to 140 and fighting Hatton, who had already been KO'd by Mayweather, arguably beaten by Collazo, struggled against Urango, and practicly KO'd by Lazcano. You look at work at 147, he used catchweights to fight champs Cotto for his title (a paper one at that, seeing that Cotto arguably lost to Clottey), Fights underachiever Clottey, and then fights a Margarito coming off suspension and at a catchweight.

History really looks at those things more than what could of happend.

Listening to a Floyd Mayweather fan criticise Pacquiao's level of competition makes me want to kill myself.

Why? Floyd either fought the same comp first or fought that comp without draining them at catchweights.

The only person you could cry about is JMM, but now Manny is about to fight JMM at 147 just like Floyd did, so the same criticism you would give Floyd you have to apply to Manny.

Pac is going to be mentioned right along with the Jack Johnson's, Ali's, Robinson's, durab's Leonard's ect.....ect Pac is the only fighter since Ali to be a champion as well as a political figure and the only fighter since Tyson to have such a dynamic global impact that he's recognized all around the world.

Maybe in the PHillipines, in the US Pac has nowhere close to the hype and publicity that Prime Jack Johnson, Ali, Robinson, Duran, Leonard, or Oscar had. It is just a simple fact.

I've been posting on ESB for a long time. I know a lost cause when I see one.

You picked Manny to beat Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, and Mosley then?

Refresh my memory, but wasn't Hatton lineal champ at JWW at the time Pac fought him at JWW? And what were the welter rankings when Pac fought Cotto and Clottey? Yeah, he fought Cotto at a catchweight, but I have yet to hear a persuasive argument that the outcome would have been different had it been fought at the full 147. Re: Margie, Pac was a small welter fighting in what was effectively in a welterweight fight in which his opponent was allowed to go over. What weight did Margie do his best work in, welter or JMW? And we're not even taking into account the fact that Pac's fighting in a division in which most fighters his size would be considered significantly small (in terms of height, not weight).

I could be wrong about how history will look at Floyd if the fight doesn't happen, but judging by the tone of the media coverage against him as well as what I hear from a lot of other casual fans, my gut tells me I'm not.

The only common opponents that pac has faced are Oscar, Ricky, Shane and Juan.... All men at least 2 divisions higher in weight... Men who were the same size as Floyd. DLH wasn't a catchweight fight... It was a welter weight fight. Cotto, Josh and Marg are all top welters Floyd failed to fight yet Pac faced and dominated. So while there are some common opponents between the two.... Pac had limited options that were viable options... Mind you Pac's been a welter half the time and has dominated twice as many than Floyd.

And neither pac or Floyd have or will face jmm at 147.
