no it's not. but ppv numbers alone are not indicative of that. if casual fans keep buying and getting disappointed then those numbers will only go on a slide.

 

Except that its an unsustainable business model that only favors the upper echelon of the sport and the 8 odd fighters lucky enough to get a spot on the undercard.

Possible....but if Floyd vs Ortiz only generated roughly 900k on the day of... Chances are had the fight went on the only way it would do a third of the total PPV buys is if Floyd lost which is highly unlikely. Even if it was a compeitive fight there's little chance the following day sales would have came close to 300k.

 

I would not compare any of those situations side by side, as they have completely different situations that influence buys.. Pac-JMM III has a history with two controversial decisions to boxing fans. Floyd-JMM was the undefeated WW fighter taking on a LW around the WW limit to boxing fans. Floyd-Ortiz was viewed as the undefeated WW fighter taking on a young green champion to boxing fans.. Which do you think should sell more using common sense?!

Pac-Clottey did 700,000, which was after ODLH, Hatton and Cotto. :thumbsup

What's pathetic is you constantly sniffing around for any slight scratch on Floyd's armor only to blow it way out of proportion and call it a win of the century for Pac fans. Good for Pac if he starts getting leverage due to PPV power. But let's see how he does against someone like Berto or Ortiz or Bradley. You have no right to brag if Pac doesn't do better than 1.2 mil with any of these guys who are still obscure to casual fans.

 

Nah, casuals will always buy a mega-fight. There is nothing greater in sports than a big fight, for those inclined to like boxing enough to order a PPV. Boxing is also starved of these big mega-fights, demand is always there for them, and when they do come about it's hard to pass up as they happen so rarely. The recent ones we've had have nearly all been dissapointing, from the heavies Tyson-Holy II to Haye-Klitschko, and DLH-Trinidad to Mayweather-Mosley. Yet the numbers have not gotten lower, and Pac-Mayweather is still expected to surpass all of them.

#2 why would you compare PAC Mosley to May Ortiz, as opposed to comparing both vs a common opponent?

that's the most common mistake floyd fans make. They try to compare PPV buys with common opponents. If either fighter fought Mosley after his KO victory over marg, I'm sure it would sell more than the "shot" version Pacq fought. Timing means a lot here.

Regardless, 1.15m is an excellent number. Both pac and floyd are equal ppv draws in my eyes.

 

I sent a msg on twitter to showtime asking about ppv figures for Pac vs SSM and they said they don't do official releases but that I could search online and that there were figures out there, and that it did extremely well.

 

Pac is the bigger draw brah. #1 in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Floyd does well cause he only fights once a year.
