Good article that I agree with, Ali-Foreman was boring but it was history making fight that made The Thrilla in Manilla possible.

Holmes-Norton is not talked about much when talking about the greatest fights of all-time and it was a very entertaining fight.

They have a bit of a point in the second article but they are talking about when he was out of his prime.

Marciano is becoming more and more respected and most people rate him in the top 5.

People and critics tend to forget that Ali was in his prime just before his banishment from the sport, and in all likelihood his greatest years were lost. To come back years later, slower, older and not as athletic as he once was, and to fight some of the greatest fighters in the history of the division, and more often than not, win, is just mind-blowing. By all accounts, he should have retired after the second Frazier fight.

Ali is not an overrated heavyweight...but as a fighter overall I think he is..People believe he is the greatest just because he says so. Not exactly true.

Controversial bollocks for the sake of it.

Take a boxer who transcended the sport and call him over rated. Write 500 words on it.

Ali is so overated. People who have never seen one of his fights will sit and tell you that he was the best boxer ever. The guy is very overated.

Mike Tyson is the most overrated HW because he objectively and closely analysing, he doesn't have the resume to back up the unstoppable image the millions of fans had (and still have) about him.

Charismatic, superstar boxers are always getting more credit than they deserved opposite to under the radar fighters, who usually get the credit after they walked into the sunset. Like 10 years from now, people won't even argue, that Bernard Hopkins' ATG place is (barely, but without a doubt) is ahead of Roy Jones. Objectively and closely analysing, Hopkins has a FAR MORE successful career (as a pro), but I guess you'll have to check back here 10 years from now and make an apology for the post you are going to make after this.

Ali has the resume BTW to back his HW status up (you can have an argument whether he's #1 or not), and quite interestingly, putting Marciano ahead of Ali is clearly overrating of Rocky.

I think generally the old fighters are way overrated. Marciano and Louis are almost godlike fighters among fans but common they fought a lot of bum opposition. Same with Sonny Liston.

Ask people around you who doesent know much about boxing: who is the best boxer in history, and tell me that Ali is not overrated.

It gets even more ridicules when he gets compared with Mandela, King etc.
Compare him with pop icons like Dean, Monroe and Warhol instead.

He is not the greatest boxer or person in the world, but the biggest name in sports ever...

Such a shame that he lucked out against Foreman.

Thats just not true and researching their opponants and the eras they fought in will show you other wise.

A lot of people write of Liston just because he was a short lived champ who won the title off a small heavyweight...But he beat and quite often destroyed a whole host of top contenders of the time who were good fighters in their own right.

Louis was the heavyweight champ for a decade when there was only one belt to win. The undisputed champ for 11 years!!!

Just look at the heavyweight division today, its disgracefully bad compared to past eras.
