I alluded to this in a post maybe two weeks ago.. The business model made sense up until they guaranteed almost $700 million to Canelo, GGG and AJ.. After those deals they raised the subscription to $20 Monthly and was looking to raise again and I envisioned them doing a PPV price for the month of Canelo vs GGG 3 to recoup some money.. With Covid-19 and being a stand alone network/app with no real shoulder programming they were going to take the biggest hit of all the 3 major factions.. The upside to running low on cash is guys will be forced to fight tough opponents for the big bucks..

DAZN has the worse production and commentary out of the major 3. Never understood how they thought they could generate profits with Canelo’s contract and others.

You could see this coming when they began to give even average fighters multi-million dollar deals.

Heart is breaking for the DAZN founder. Did all that capitalist hard work, burning the midnight oil, scheming to sell off state owned infrastructure for insane profits after Communism fell to make his fortune. He deserved even more money, I felt. Because business is all about hard work and stuff, the reward to those who deserve it, like Oligarchs who sell off state-owned infrastructure for billions because they were well connected with corrupt governments.

No you couldn’t. All deals were similar before. Fighters sign contracts, get paid and eventually the broadcasters cover up the money paid with sales. No one would have expected a virus to completely shut down everything the way it is at the moment. DAZN isn’t the only company facing issues, many others are suffering as well and it was all unexpected.

Very interesting. I've read about these guys before. Had no idea they owned DAZN. Great way to launder money, I suppose.

It's mad how some people have tribal loyalties to broadcasters/boxing promoters.

This was going to happen with or without the virus. They were already operating in the red.

It's a shame dazn was pretty affordable and had a ton of fights.

I'm hoping another streaming service comes through in the same mold

DAZN was the one cutting the cheques.

If DAZN want to recoup their losses they need to target the UFC market; the core demographic of UFC fans are braindead, low IQ, drunken, bandwagon hopping idiots who are only too happy to pay $50+ regularly for PPV events.

Boxing is too niche. Target the bigger demographic. Start poaching UFC and MMA fighters; give bigger guarantees and watch them flock over.

They would be ok without this COVID-19 mess. Here is the deal with DAZN they are wanting to get one of the college football conferences when they come up for renewal. They want the B1G or the Big 12 deal and might even settle for the AAC (not to be confused with the ACC). John Skipper knows how many eyeballs and attention and subs college football would bring. If they can last long enough to do that they will be ok.

They needed to start a lot smaller and build a customer base then gradually increase the price and quality

They could have charged 4.99 subs and had just decent lower end world title fights and domestic cards, then move up as the customer base grew.

Instead they spent silly money and didn't get much to show for it.

I am so against that happening. If they get a foot in that door then next thing you know you need 10 subscriptions to watch a college football season
