I was reminded by another post of a fight I had watched again recently and thought I'd ask the question about obvious sportsmanship in the ring. This bout was between 2 british boxers Wayne Rigby (Manchester, England) Vs. Michael Ayers (Tooting, England). Brilliant fight, back and forth action, had plenty of drama, a saved by the bell moment, but differs from many fights I've seen with one of the most gentlemanly endings i've ever seen :hat- you can really appreciate the sportsmanship watching this in what is sometimes a sport with unneccesarily brutal conclusions. will upload this fight if anyone knows how to upload a dvd file onto yout ube? k
You could always just explain what happened. One I remember, though I cannot for the life of me remember who he was fighting, was Eubank. He was battering the guy who just couldn't fight back any more and was barely protecting himself. Eubank kept waving the ref to come and stop it, which eventually he did.
I think this is what you are looking for; Ike Williams v Beau Jack; It is one of the most brutal finishes that you will ever see, but just watch near the end where Williams holds Jack up with his glove and then turns to the ref to call it off; crap ref doesn't call it off, and Jack has to take more clean shots, but Williams showed real sportsmanship in asking the question because a few seconds before he had looked in the "zone" (the red mist had definetly come down; fair play to Williams for having retained objectivity in that situation). Start watching from the 5.50 mark:good [YT]OBIs09wpbIw[/YT]
Hey icemax:good If you could find that one you should post it up; I know that black-and-white footage like I posted isn't everyones cup of tea.
Gatti and Ward hugging at the start of the 10th round of the third fight before going back to trying to kill each other.
That was a great vid, thanks for that but I'm defo talking about a Eubank fight. EDIT: Or were you not replying to me?
Its about 3:20 in :good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFJHiXbaIbY (can never embed the bloody things)
Yeah that was a good show of sportsmanship. Holmes was really murdering him near the end; Frazier just had nothing to dent him with.
I always like that Marciano-Jersey Joe one. Marciano Suzy Q's him and knows it's over. Whether it's a call from the ref or whatever he could have followed through with a clean left but pulls out of it and it ends up a little cuff more than anything as Marciano walks to a neutral corner, having done enough but no more than he needs to. These days refs are vertually diving on blokes to try and get them to stop. Good old Rock!
