This is a prime honeyghan. Tht one pumped up and guns blazing. Yes there is all talk of curry weight drained but honeyghan took him on In his back yard and beat the guy who was pound 4 pound best fighter supposedly at time! Facing him a young sugar coming off great wins from benitenz and dave boy green. So he's confident as hell. Add in the fact honeyghan wasn't rated by the yanks at all. So.. Does honeyghan put the first L in sugar s column?

I don't think Honeyghan could pressure Leonard for 15 rounds the way that Duran did. I voted for Leonard by stoppage

Both that Leonard and the Duran that beat Leonard beat Honeyghan.

Even that honey from the curry fight? I no u have to take in to account that Don was weight drained supposedly, but honeyghan was on fire that night. He was a big underdog and was delighted to prove a point. Leonard fought to Duran s advantage that fight and kind of played in to Roberto s hands by fighting his fight. Wouldn't honey have the strength and determination to do the same thing to sugar? "and remember sugar would have been taking honeyghan for a English bum

I think Lloyd got Don at just the right time. If he was as special as he looked that night he would have made lighter work of Blocker, beaten Vaca first time out, looked better beating the Korean (he won via low blow tko) and been competitive against Starling.

There was very little either side of the Curry fight - before or after - to suggest he beats Leonard or even makes it competitive. And if it was Hearns in the other corner, I honestly don't think he goes two rounds.

He probably thought Dave Boy Green was an 'English bum'.

Didn't stop him nearly killing him, though.

That's what I meant by English bum remark. He'd come to the fight expecting another blow out and then bang!!!! He's got a young prime hungry honeyghan coming at him. Sugar maybe a lot more skillful but Duran a oldish lightweight took him to hell, so why not a pumped up, strong hungry, determined honeyghan? And honey was no flake.

And remember thin man went on to win a belt so was no bum, vaca was dealt with in the rematch and the Korean guy was just looking for a easy way out...

Because Leonard was on another level over Curry. And Duran was an excellent welter as well. Besides Leonard, he beat another very good welter in Carlos Palomino.

I'm not saying honey would blow out sugar like he did don but I believe on that night he could have been the first one to defeat him. Take the Douglas_tyson fight. A massive favourite comes in expecting a easy one. Over confident, doesn't think much of challenger.. What happens,?? The challenger wants it more! Proceeds to get the crap knocked out of him. Well that night honeyghan may have been Douglas if u get my meaning. Another example? Robinson v turpin. Happens all the time in this sport.

    Leonard KO.
Honeyghan-Curry was about Curry losing his legs after a few rounds. He just looked weird and flat. Leonard himself was stating how flat and tired Curry was looking. I hate to take away from Honeyghan, he's a proven champ and a good fighter but there's levels and Leonard is TBE level.

That's true, Fergy. But to put him on the pedestal that he could do what Tommy Hearns couldn't, I'd need to see more. His first reign saw him beat a drug ruined JWW in Bumphus, an inexperienced Blocker in a close one, a JWW of no great repute in Hatcher before he lost to Vaca. His second reign consisted of the very ordinary Korean before the Magic Man took him to school. To me, that falls short of a fighter who could have beaten Leonard.

I see where your coming from edd and yes, most people looking at that fight on paper would say much same thing. In all honesty sugar tops honeyghan in so many ways. His career comprises of beating legend s. I just like to look at different angles like fighter's coming in under trained, over confident and think.. Could this fighter on the day pull off the upset?. Obviously it never happened so no way of knowing but I believe maybe just maybe honeyghan could have caught leonard at the right time. But thanks for your input.

Honeyghan was much better than people give him credit for.
I'd pick Leonard to beat him but it's probably going to be a very tough fight.

I reckon Curry, Honeyghan, Starling all would have given Leonard and Duran tough fights.
