Was SRL vs Hearns stopped early by the ref? Or was it a legit stoppage that Hearns and his camp did not protest against?

No disrespect dude as I've see you only have about 25 post, but this is one of the MOST TALKED ABOUT threads of ALL-TIME..

Belongs in the "Classic" Section, but to answer your question NO

Initially I thought so, but Hearns never complained, nor did Manny Steward.

No disrespect taken. I've been around these forums for years though, and I ignore all sections except for the general forum.

Initially I thought the Hitman could have continued, but he was done and Sugar Ray's "body attack" really did Tommy in.

Were Tommy's ribs broken or what?

Wasn't the bigger robbery between these two in the 2nd fight when even SRL said that he thought Hearns won the fight and you know he's not the type of guy to admit things like that.

Yeah, I thought that was really classy on his part. Boxers almost never admit that they got a gift from the judges, even years later. Though I think if that fight had gone one more round, SRL would have dropped Hearns. He was pretty battered at the bell.

SRL also says that regardless of how you score Hagler-SRL, he won because he lasted 12 rounds-- everyone thought he would get killed, and he got the nod because he survived.

BTW-- I scored Hagler-SRL for Leonard.

    nah. Hearns had nothing left.

a better question is whether benitez-srl was stopped too quickly

I think it probably should have been a draw, but that's splitting hairs. The amazing thing is that Leonard, an ageing natural WW, came up to MW to fight an atg in that division, and did so after years outside of the ring. That's amazing.
