No. I thought you were saying that Leonard/Hearns is discussed more historically because it was between Black Americans unless you are discussing it with a Mexican or a Puerto Rica.

Yeah, I think it is. The gold standard in the eyes of some boxing fans.

I picked Leonard. I think beating Hearns is more impressive than beating Gomez.

Sharing it was right. Both had epic wins - if I was voting at the time I'd have made it a tie.

There’s really not many others who had a year like Sanchez and Leonard. I guess Arguello, Hagler and Holmes perhaps Michael Spinks? But while they all had great years as well they lacked the signature wins of Sanchez/Leonard.

I guess it easier to sit down 20+ years later and say the win over Hearns was bigger, but the voters of the day don’t have that retrospection.

However some of that is I didn’t feel as a tween that Gomez would best Sanchez, and I did think Hearns would win.

So were those wins on par for the day (even if not in my mind) or do I maybe have an American bias in my view...

    I still go SRL

Leonard for me. Whatever you make of which was the better win, the fighter of the year should not be going - with all due respect - life and death with Pat Cowdell.

Pretty harsh.... not sure that is what separates it for me? But to each thier own...

I have Sanchez by 6 on my card 146-140 not sure what the one judge who gave it to Cowdell saw? Although I think Cowdell gave it a great heroic effort!!! Not sure it was life a death.
