I know this one has been posted on here before but when I searched I could'nt find it. BEST OVERALL FIGHTER: Wiflredo Benitez He proved to be identical to me as far as offense and defense. It was like looking into a mirror...I ended up going to hospital after that fight, no energy. That was teh closest thing to death for me, you know? He was the epitome of what a fighter should be. BEST BOXER: Wiflredo Benitez A classic boxer with a capitol "B". He was the epitome of what a pure boxer should be. He never really got credit for the sort of bexer he was. He was a real tactician. He was a real boxer. BEST PUNCHER: Roberto Duran Duran's punches were like stone...i've never been hit and hurt to the body pretty much by anyone except Duran. Yeah, Roberto Duran. BEST DEFENCE: Floyd Mayweather Sr. It was Mayweather, even though I eventually got through it, it was Mayweather...I was almost unable to penetrate it. FASTEST HANDS: Tommy Hearns. He could hit you cleanly with a lead-off right. FASTEST FEET: Tommy Hearns Tommy Hearns again. Surprisingly, Tommy hearns. I had to become a puncher against him. BEST CHIN: Marvin Hagler Granite. Just granite. Has he even meeb knocked down? I saw him rocked by Mugabi. I sam him rocked by Hearns. Even Obelmemias rocked him. But I've never seen any signs of him repreesenting the true definition of being hurt. BEST JAB: Tommy Hearns. Piston like jab. It was delivered with speed. It hurt. It was accurate. It was like a right hand. It was almsot always on target. Tommy could have beaten Marvin Hagler with that jab. STRONGEST: Marcos Geraldo. When I beat that guy, in that small ring, with that eldery referee, God bless him, I knew that I could beat anybody. Did you see him when he hurt me? That fight resonated with me. It gave me the msot confidence. When that guy hurt me bad, I took some shots. SMARTEST: Benitez
I like Leonard as a fighter but I think the only reason he gives Benitez more credit than Duran & co was because he decisively beat Benitez & the fight wasn`t close at all (from my viewing)... fighters do that sorta ****, helps them sleep better at night I suppose. I think its clear enough that of all the 7 fights Leonard had vs Duran (X3) Hearns (X2) Hagler (X1) & Benitez (X1) that it was Duran that looked the most complete opponent in that first fight in Montreal. JMO
I like that Wilfred is getting his just dos. I always go on about this guy because I think he was awesome. They spoke about matching him with Hagler at like a 155 catchweight but nothing ever happened. That would have been something to see. Such a shame how he ended up. A talented fighter with reflexes to rival Sweet Pea
That was much my thought too. But I'd say that the fight was pretty close. Leonard had a healthy lead going into the last round, but most rounds were quite close. Leonard was one of the best at stealing rounds with a couple of punches or a combination shortly before the bell, though.
A lot of respect for Benitez. Benitez was a great fighter. Too bad he came along in an era where he lost both his 147 and 154 pound titles to Leonard and Hearns. I think he was at his best almost at 154 since his competition was slower at that weight and he was still quick and had such beautiful hand speed and reflexes.
Thats what i was thinking too. BTW loving this "best i've faced" threads. Does anyone know the Roy Jones "Best i've faced" that was in the latest ring mag?
Ray could be giving it to him cause he's usually the most underapreciated of their gen and is in terrible shape today. Real shame. The guy in a good night was just a beauty.
Even Fully Obel rocked Marv'? What ya' sayin' Ray, that he couldn't crack? Anyway, he's lieing through his teeth. Kalule was the real answer to every question posed. Ray just wanted to protect Ayub from the C.I.A or some ****, not sure but that's it I think.
