Many posters here are die hard Leonard fans but come out "undercover" so we dont suspect their partiality which clouds their judgement

Had Leonard been shot, we'd have seen his legs fail him throughout the rubber match with Duran

From what could be seen, he was moving beautifully. This is not a characteristic of shot fighters

But they never seem to acknowledge these points and go right back to repeating the same rhetoric

27 years is not considered old in boxing, especially after 33 fights

It's not as though he were ring worn with 100 fights

he was caught doing a dumb move and was hit clean on the chin, not to mention he was fighting at a higher weight

This wasnt the first time Leonard was hurt and he wasnt even hurt by Howard; his legs just went out from under him

I've seen Leonard hurt in earlier fights all the way back to Willie Rodriguez. We all saw what Duran did to him in fight one and was even hurt by Marcos Geraldo!

Leonard had never faced anyone with Terry's speed. Who besides Roy Jones had this kind of speed?

so or course, Leonard couldnt see some of the shots coming and his body couldnt take the sudden shock and he went down

A body, even Sugar Ray Leonard, could only take so much! He still tried and he did better than he did in the Camacho fight

Had it been Leonard ALONE, then we could add that tremendous achievement to his resume.

Great fighters SHOULD be able to pull it out against the up and coming

Ray EASILY dealt with arch enemy Roberto, but as Ray leonard's speed was to Roberto, Terry Norris' speed was to Ray Leonard's

It wasn’t Jackson alone who SEPARATED Terry from his senses - so, you’re LYING…..AGAIN.

Of the others, there was also Simon Brown who also severed Terry from conscious reality (much like how you are but your condition is 24/7) when Norris was in his prime and laughingly when Tezza was being misguidedly touted as P4P best.

NEVER happened to Ray in the same context, because it was always TOO MUCH RAY as opposed to TOO Little Terry even at Nozza’s best.

The prime years of a fighter are not standard in length. It varies from one boxer to the next. Leonard may not have suffered the wear and tear of 100 fights but he was certainly faded after his multiple retirements. After his first retirement he visited the canvas 7 times in his last 7 fights. He had never been knocked down prior to that. It should seem clear that that Leonard was not only over the hill but down in the valley. So no, I don’t think it’s valid to judge him by his last two fights. By the way, the prime Tommy Hearns had very fast hands and more power than Norris. He was also a fine boxer. Yet when he and Leonard met at welterweight in their primes, Leonard may have been outboxed, but Hearns never had Ray in any danger of going down. And he hit Ray with some pretty hard shots. Also, a fighter can be old at 33 or at 27 or 28. It depends on when a fighter’s skills diminish, and that can be due to a variety of factors. Floyd Mayweather had a long prime, while a fighter like Wilfred Benitez had a short one. The general consensus among boxing historians and fans is that Leonard was way past his prime in his last two bouts, and they shouldn’t diminish his legacy.—Mark
